Kingsoft WPS office is bugging me with updates. I want something I don't have to update. I am not a heavy users. I just need something to open documents. A document viewer that opens .docx files might suffice. Thanks in advance @Westeller @lnv
Me? What are you tagging me for? Just google the top MS Office alternatives and use one. Or, fuck, just pir-- pay for Office.
LibreOffice is the best MS Office alternative. You can disable auto update reminders and continue using an old version indefinitely if you wish. As for being lightweight, well, define lightweight? If you need just lightweight, there is always notepad. I would suggest against that. Many torrents can contain viruses and the like. Why risk it when there are free alternatives that are better?
You can use the online version of Microsoft Office or even Google's office suite. Both are about as lightweight as possible since they're in the cloud. If you want to use an office suite locally, Libre Office is the standard. Even if you don't use it often, it's still important to keep it updated. You can disable automatic updates, but you'll want to update before opening a document to prevent possible malware.
OnlyOffice can be an alternative, however it misses some key features like the "slide master" for presentations.
Ai-chan uses WPS office and Ai-chan has never been prompted to update. The only annoying thing is that it defaults to saving on the cloud, and Ai-chan doesn't like that. Ai-chan doesn't know where to go to change that default. Sure, Ai-chan can simply specify to save elsewhere instead when 'saving as' but if you have a lot of documents, you eventually make a mistake and ends up saving in the cloud unintentionally. The problem with the other office alternatives is that in many cases, they are not compatible with microsoft office's formatting. Ai-chan used to use Libre Office, but the formatting always went out of whack when Ai-chan opens heavily formatted microsoft word documents. WPS Office doesn't have that issue. Ai-chan never encountered formatting error while using WPS Office suites.
