Discussion Fries and ice cream?

Ever tried dipping fries into ice cream? Did you like it? Did you hate it?

I find vanilla ice cream and fries as my fave combo. I even converted my friends into this cult.

Does it sound weird or gross? What other food combos do you find strange? I know some people dislike pineapple on pizza (I feel neutral about it since it's familiar to me and not that weird but I have other pizza flavors I like more)

It sounds like it could be tasty, but I've never gotten to try because whenever I have fries, I don't have ice cream, and vice versa.

 

Its weird because you almost never have french fries and ice cream at the same time so tasting them together rarely happens. Taste wise it should be fine as there are other sweet french fry pairings.

It is tasty! But if you're trying it for the first time in front of other people, be prepared of the strange looks... My friends were totally judging me for my taste when they first saw me do it... they got converted nonetheless...

I see them together often enough where i live. Most especially in fast food chains like McDo. But yah, I don’t expect all places to be like that.

I thought it was supposed to be fries and milkshakes, maybe I confused it

 

On the one hand, it's just another example of a salty food being mixed with a sweet one~...but I'm still gonna look at you funny for dipping things in your soft serve, or milkshake.

 

Ah I'm thinking of normal vanilla ice cream. You dip the fries into it like how some dip fries into gravy.

I don't even wanna imagine the milkshake one. It's not consistent enough as a dip. I like my milkshakes normal, don't worry xD

Fries are meant to be eaten hot while ice cream being cold, I don't even like the idea of the two being eaten together, but if it is some chips rather than fries then sure, I don't see a problem like that XD

 

it was a meh experience for me and I wouldn't do it again. Taste is pretty good but I like my fries hot and not weirdly cold-hot after it's been dipped

 

That's also yummy! I just like my nachos with cheese and meaty salsa tho.

I find the difference in temperature negligible. Sometimes it's interesting but mostly negligible xD

 

is just the basic craving of salt and sugar, that's why you prefer it with vanilla, I would bet that you also have more or less figured how much dip the chip or fries, so that it has a "balance" almost all ppl have some kind of combination of something salty and something sweet. so I wouldn't call it weird.

 

Mmhmm, i agree. It's just that some people are quick to judge food combo without trying it first. That's one of my eating motto, try first and until then reserve judgement haha

 

But hot fries taste a lot lot better than cold ones. Dipping it in ice cream feels like I'd be making the fries lose their crunch.

And I'm not against trying it either, but like the others, I don't think I've had them in the same meal or if I did, the time they get put on the table differs because both of the foods depend a lot on being hot/cold and are to be eaten in a particular time limit.

 

I think it would taste pretty good, only if the fries aren't salted. Think about it fries are basically fried potato and donuts are fried bread. So donuts go well with ice cream so fries should go well with ice cream too.

 

I've tried but i decided that they are better when they're being eaten individually.

I have never tried pineapple pizza so i have no opinion on that but tbh it doesn't seem as bad as people make it out to be.

 

Not true. You take a fry, dip it in ice cream then eat. Repeat.
It's still crunchy.
