    half of humanity bc if Earth is destroyed, it'll be way more than just 50% casualties

    Well, the loophole I can see here is that no timeline was given. That being the case, stall for time until we get space colonies set up, and then we migrate everyone to the colonies. Then we can destroy the Earth. Hm, I'm pretty sure this was Char's master plan back in the Char's Counterattack movie.
