I know those kinds of novels. It happens when only the beginning of a book is good. Even when I go back to them, I end up re-reading the good parts and dropping it again when I get to the later ones.

Anyone here also reading The Last Science by Etzoli? I find it weird that few people know or recommend it here.

I liked it in the beginning, but it got boring in the middle. I like the characters a lot though...

No novel deserve more than the max rating.
It's just that too many novels get that max rating without deserving it.

Honestly, the first few novels that I read of the genre are 6/5's in my hearts.

If I were to reread them, I don't think I would find them great. But books which were the first introduction to categories like xianxia/cultivation, rebirth/regression, and transmigration have a special place in my heart.

No list can be complete without Mother of Learning! Took him 9 years to write but you can tell it was planned out from the beginning, so the quality actually goes up over time instead of down like most webnovels.

    6/5? Translated novels?

Can't say I've read a translated novel better than Invijible Panda.

There are a few novels that are just slightly worse, namely:
    • Invaders of the Rokujouma
    • The Ryuo's Work Is Never Done
    • No Game No Life
I can't think of any KR novel that I didn't drop that I'd ever re-read. And the Chinese have a term called "junk food novels" which describes how I feel about pretty much all of them. I usually drop halfway after the novelty runs out and I get bored or I reach the current translation progress and never read it again because it isn't interesting enough. Lord of the Mysteries is the only CN novel that I actually read every week to the end. If a 5/5 CN novel is something that I'd consider reading to the end (CCG, My Senior Brother Is Too Steady, Experimental Log of the Crazy Lich, Release That Witch, When a Mage Revolts, My House of Horrors, The Record of Unusual Creatures), then LOTM is the only 6/5.

Aw there are too few translated chapters, I'll definitely read it once 100+ are translated.

I know that most CN are pretty much wish fulfilment and aren't very well written, but there are some novels that you end up really liking despite knowing that it might not be the same for everyone or that they aren't really that amazing. And I agree that a lot of Chinese novels are "junk food novels" you get sick of eating them (bored of reading them) if you eat too much.

MoL was the first "second chance" novel that I ever read and it's my favourite genre now!

    A Will Eternal.
Has everything a cultivation novel needs and hits the ground running. It’s full of action and humor with lovable characters and words can’t describe how good it is. The only downside is I have already read it so I can never again experience reading a new chapter of this masterpiece.
