I live in an Asian family, and I started reading online novels when I got banned from reading books from the library after I got a B on a homework assignment. I'm reading in secret now, mostly with the use of Incognito, Private Browsing, and Ctrl W. I've been reading novels for about a year now, and I still haven't been found out. Does anyone else here read novels in secret?

    That sounds oddly specific...

That makes sense lol. I've never hated reading when I was young, in fact I was obsessed with it, so that was probs why my family thought that was the cause of my single B.

Not a problem since it was my mother who taught me to love books, and being the ungrateful son I am, I immediately turned against her and started competing for the right of who gets to read any newly purchased novel first.

Yes. I mean, I was into the books already. So, webnovels weren't much of a surprise for them. But most novel covers are too cartoony if not bit revealing, so I get those occasional weird looks from them.

I wish I had this kind of access back in HS. Back then it was only BakaTsuki or manga scanlations lol

Hmm, I really did like reading books when I was small, since it was an escape from the not so great reality. I remember I used to sneak in my books with me to the bathroom cuz the only time I was allowed a break was then. I also used to read in the dark with a flashlight. My dad is an avid reader though so I didn’t get yelled at by him.
Now, I haven’t really found any western books I’ve been interested in reading so I just read lns and wns. I get yelled at for being on my phone all the time anyway so might as well do what I want.

My parents are good ones, but they don't read books, and they think anything other than textbooks don't really have much purpose.

Ah I see…. That’s quite a shame. Reading for fun is good for you anyway. If they didn’t have a purpose then why are there so many types of books out there yknow? And why would schools make you read too (tho those assigned books usually aren’t that fun to begin with). Not like you can say that to their face tho lol. All you can do is hold out til independence I guess lol good luck!

I hope I won't die from 'too much homework' before that, but thanks for the luck!

Unlike the weebs of manga and anime, novel-addiction isn't as widespread or known. While my family knows that I sometimes read novels online, they have no idea of how severe it is.

Yes, everyone knows. It’s not as bad as other habits I could have. I mean at least I don’t drink alcohol or smoke cigarettes. Besides it is a free hobby. They should be glad you have a decent past time.
For me if anybody has a problem with me reading so much. Than it’s their problem.

lol I thought it was the opposite.
If I ever get into a fight with someone over my obsession of reading, I will definitely quote this.

I read too many english novels when I was in elementary and middle school. I started lns and wns in highscool. I once read a book Friday night cause I had nothing to do the next day and I lost track of time and my dad woke up at 8 and saw that I was still reading.
