No, and thank god they don’t know. Even though I don’t even live with them anymore, I still have a profound fear of them knowing I have any interests at all
At first when I was scum (reading fanfiction in the deepest of caverns), I told my parents that I was reading novels of which a fan (or two) made their preferred version of it. I don't know if they ever found out. Then when crawled out of my cave and into the empty space of the ocean (which is bl, yaoi, gl, dog blood, etc.), they were proud of me learning some asian internet terms and idioms. I'm still getting decent grades. But they'll probably end up being disappointed at the content I read.
I wanna do the same, but my family moves often, expectations are high, and my parents would probs be like 'why don't you just spend that time studying.'
My parents are really old and irresponsible. They forget all the time and break promises all the time which led me to form trust issues. So they might take away my devices (but that only happened when I was younger, when they didn't have body aches) but I'll just find it and they'll just give up. But they'll be super concerned when we're mailed grades. All A's or get kicked out of the family registry, amiright
I am the 'smart kid who studies well'. My parents as well my relatives assumed that I liked reading books, I am not very sure whether they are aware that I am not reading an educational book, but rather I am reading novels. Still, because of that beautiful misunderstanding, I can get away with using my phone for long time hehe. My sister is aware though.
My parents knew I love to read. I've been reading in my entire life, & can waste my sleeping hours to read. Well, I read in front of them, even at lunch & dinner time. Sometimes, I told them briefly about the plot, but I say it like a normal BG story (The thing is the novels I've read is BL & it's online)
Maybe? My parents forced me to read books ever since I was young since they hoped I’d do better in school & enjoy reading, but I typically hate reading school text & I don’t get to choose what to read through this method. (Like they figured I just hated reading school stuff but wanted to me play less games) However I read a ton of manga and back then fan fiction and only discovered web novels few years back. Like my mom asked me few years ago about how to use ePub reader since she knows I read online stuff and wanted to read stuff, so I think she is aware probably not my dad. However my parents stopped forcing me and my siblings to read books, so I’m glad I can read what I want when I want in my free time.
I've never had to hide reading novels from anyone.... I used to spend hours in the library on holidays when I was younger. I have been scolded quite a bit for spending too much on novels before though. I do go quite overboard sometimes XD
