Do you think it's true that a lot of us don’t fear dying itself; we fear being forgotten after we die?
    But why?

Do you remember what it feels like before being born?
    No, right?
That's what being dead is like.

The fear of death comes chiefly from the pain often accompanying it and the fear of the unknown.

    I agreed with my child.
If I am already dead it doesn't matter wheather anyone remember me or not.

Bcz the connection between them and me is through my body if I die my soul break all the connection from this world
    And went through
Hell or heaven (acc. To my my work in this world)

I believe that when other say they will remember other after death it's not for the death guy, but for those alive who cared about the death guy. A way to release the sadness instead of keeping it with you the whole life.

    hmmm
well it maybe because people prefer both since few people would like people to remember forever while some wish that people would forget them
being forgotten after you die is normal....,natural. even if you were to be a war hero people will still forget you but if you did something bad or something which you regret then you would probably want people to forget you and your deeds.
everyone will be forgotten after their death anyways but the only thing is how long do people remember and those people who say they want people to forget them might secretly hope at least one person may remember them ,be sad in their death.
and those who want people to remember them .....well they would have lead a normal or above average life but they might still wish if people would forget them
and about those people who come to the funeral,i can bet that at least 1/4 of the grieving people only came for keeping appearances to not seem like a person who is indifferent to a person's death or like a person that don't care about the dead person
so:blobsmilehappy: the answer to your question might be filled with contradictions :blobwink::blobwink:

I think what they fear is the unknown they don't know what will happen after death and the fear of they can't do what they want anymore.

I think death itself is a more frightening thing than being forgotten. I used to fear death, but have realised that the older you get the more normal the end seems. Being forgotten is also normal unless you did something truly great.

Well, majority of humans have been forgotten. Even those that are "remembered", who can truly say they really know them? You can only know their deeds and what they might have say at best. Even for those who are still alive, just how well do you know them?

Just for say, the kind of forgotten I want when we talked about this was an instantaneous one and where no trace of me would remain at all as if I never existed.

No and yes. It's a bit complex but we do fear of dying and we do fear of leaving nothing as legacy for all we wasted when we're still alive.

Memories and legacy itself is actually for the living.

What is the point of being remembered or not?
The fear of death is simply because we don't know where we are going, just like where we came from, me for instance used to think of it as being in a black box alone never seeing, hearing or feeling anything, it is like we came from somewhere, our memories are wiped only leaving basic instincts and the rest is up for us to know (purpose of life?) then where are we going? it can't simply be about just existing just so others can remember us (there is an entire universe and an ecosystem) simply, coming just to go is a bizarre idea to me (like some popup window or something XD), and this is where religion come into play, unless science can advance enough to find more things and maybe visit the ends of the universe, who knows? anyway, to me I found my answers about this topic and that is why I am at ease with it XD

I don't mind being forgotten~ I'll be dead anyway :blobneet:

Rather, I think it's the unknown that's scary after death.

Why do I want to be remembered?
It's my ego, I know, I find joy in knowing that I'm appreciated enough to be in other people's memories. Joy if I could be important enough that there's a part of the world that wouldn't be the same if I weren't there.

But why do I fear of being forgotten? Is it from the helplessness?
I live my life, and then when it ends, it ends.
    Really? How insignificant. How meaningless.
I know that no matter what, I'm a tiny insignificant existence.
But still it makes me sad. Does my life really amounts to nothing? It disappears after it ends. Poof, like nothing was there in the first place. Then why should I even be here?
