I don’t get how in different novels/mangas set in the same time period premarital sex can be either a big deal or not important at all sometimes being a virgins before marriage is expected and you can be killed or ruin your reputation if you aren’t a virgin and then in others some female mc ends up one night standing the ml or the villain super casually like it’s nothing it’s confusing
Sex is really not a big deal, before the desert trilogy took over the world, people have sex when they feel like it, that's why the whole Paganism existed.
There actually is a book series can’t remember what it is on kindle where one of the characters says in her language the word for sex with a single person and masturbation are the same and only harem sex counts as proper sex
Fun fact 1: Sex is pronounced as 'secks'. Fun fact 2: Sects is pronounced the same as sex. Fun fact 3: 'Sex Friend' and 'Sects Friend' are pronounced the same but mean completely different things. Fun fact 4: This post was not meant to answer the OP's questions.
I agree. It’s confusing. Especially other things like Harems. But to tell you the truth @Raven Evernight . This doesn’t sounds like your traditional case. This sound to specific. Too RL. Are you sure your talking in general or just a specific novel? Or something else
This might have to do with how strict the governing system was for some regions and religion might also be another reason as to why women has to be a virgin before marriage. Then again, if they are writing it in modern time, it mostly won’t happen, but if they are doing ancient times, then yes, but it depends on if the woman is caught doing that or not.
Ehhhh in different cultures throughout history virginity before marriage has been valued different amounts. And with things like concubines, the definition of marriage is very different too. So authors pick and choose between what parts they want to include for the sake of what story they want to tell. Most "historical" novels are not actually very historically accurate at all. And cultivation novels may seem to be based on historical culture, but we all know it's just the author making up whatever they want. Basically if the author wants virginity kink, they will write that, if they want casual sex, they will write that.
Three answers, 1) could be one author researches well and one didn't. 2) no culture/time period is homogeneous. An example is a teenager raised in an abstinence/bible home in the southern US vs one raised in one of the New York City. Even then you'll see both viewpoints in both regions, they are just more common in one region or the other. So the MC and others don't have to fit the larger cultural viewpoint. 3) Finally, the author might have made tweaks to the era so women have more control over marriage, reproductive choices, or even things like property and voting. It's after all fiction, even historical fiction is still fictional.
