Hi everyone! As the title suggests, I’m interested in knowing how others find new novels to read. Who knows we might learn some interesting things about each other. Personally I tend to search by genres and tags, then I filter by completion status (I only read completed novels). Sometimes I use recommendations but because I’m very picky I rarely rely on them
Since I have the filters put into effect, I just sift through the titles listed in the Latest Releases pages, trusting my instincts honed by years of doing the same and click on any names that catch my fancy.
I have actually tried all the above mentioned methods more than once. It depends on the need of the hour. If I like a novel I am reading and it's ending or I'm catching up, then first I look for the authors other novels and then check for similar novels, finally asking for recommendations on forum. If I simply want to read a novel out of nowhere, then I check the top ones first, then filter by language and genre. I once even tried the random function.
Same. Plus, now I also find interesting new titles by looking at the most recently updated spoiler thread.
I'm pretty much the same except I go to other places to see which retarded isekai they're shitposting about and check them out if it seems interesting. Saw a good LN being discussed a while ago that I'll check out.
"Personally I think the best way to find a new story to read on nu is to open the whole catalogue, filter tags you dont want, and then just jump to a random page and see if something catches your eye." Either that or even better when you have time, do the above step on a larger scale and create a new reading list from scratch - Ignore Ratings, Popularity and Reviews. Open the whole catalogue Filter some genres/tags you dont want at all like NTR, Mecha etc Start going through all the pages and adding stuff that catches your eye to the new list. Optionally, prune the resultant list once you are done
I usually check out names that catch my eye in the latest updates page and jump through the recommendations
Review sites and review blogs. Reading a well-written good review can give my brain a beautify filter when actually reading the book, making me biased towards it, and that feeling is wonderful Sift through completed books in various sites, Search by tags and lately I also search by keywords Asking for recs doesn't really work for me somehow I'd like those books less than ones I find out by myself. Even though the so-called find out by myself is from other people's asking for recs I usually ask for recs for things I want as a reference for my writing
Yeah the random function kinda sucks, yet to pull the ssr quality novel gacha from it. I have yet to try going through other people's Rec Lists - hopefully they are an improvement over the shitshow that is Ratings-Review-Rank. If they are, they probably can use some more visibility...
Coincident most of the times... Sometimes I searched from Novelupdates that got recently updated Sometimes I look in popular tag but... this failed mostly on Novelupdates cause I look into it too much already so I choose this way on website I rarely gone to Sometimes I searched for "something similar" to the current novel I'm reading For example: I got interested in novel that have a plot like MC got transported to survival games. Mc have a cheat that gives hint to find the resources. From that, MC monopolise the resources. It's kinda hard to search for this similar novel cause it is not really well liked by peoples cause Mc is too OP (sometimes he is a bit stupid in trading too in other similar novel but I don't really mind this since he is already ahead of everyone) Novel: Road survival: I have a hint system, Dig to Survive, Misty Island, Boundless Ocean (this is ranking from the 1st to below) There are others but I don't remember So if any of you know this type of novel, please tell me. It's okay even if MTL. I'm reading Road Survival in MTL right now, it updates 3 chapters a day so I'm fine
Most for tags, but in raw is for genre, at first I look up the complete ones, reading titles and description, pick a few to try out and after that begin on goings looking for recently updated. I used to do this on mangos and animes, so I am used to.
I don't know if anyone does this but, I go look into others' list, cause maybe they have the same taste as me, who knows lol.
Try this apps: anystories, you could find a lot novel that is free reading. for some popular novel it need a point to read, but you dont have to buy the point, by spending 15 minutes reading in the apps, you could gain point to read popular novel
I actually get most of the books to read from NUF. The most important thing about recommendations here is not whether people say that a book is good or not. While there are a few posters whose tastes match my own, I actually find that the opinions here mostly suck. Instead, I look at what titles get tossed around and do a bit of checking to see if the books. The other big source is author commentary. A lot of them write little tidbits about themselves and this sometimes includes the books they're interested.
