The MC is a "stagnant water" (aka a long timer in a game) of a survival VMMO called "Survival Life" that had a reputation of being extremely harsh and thus didn't have many players. Still, he and a few others stuck it out, but in the end, even they left the game. He was the last player as he waited for the new update, but suddenly the developers announced that game was shutting down.

Soon after the shut down, the internets were all abuzz about individuals claiming they could open a Status Window. The MC tried and and lo, so could he. He immediately recognized the Status Window was the same as the one in the Survival Life game. And as someone who was obsessed with the game's lore, he was able to determine that if this was Survival Life becoming reality, they were about a month out from where the game started with most of the population turning into zombies.

Just like the characters in the game, he see that he has a Special Ability from the Status Window. His particular Special Ability is "Dimensional Portal" which opens a portal to another world, well it appears to be a wilderness area of the game world as it's got the same game monsters there. So that's what we have in the story so far, the MC is preparing for the appearance of zombies in the city and the end of civilization in general. He wants to set up a safe house in a cave in this other world.

I feel the author has put some thought into the prepping part of this survival story, like what modern gear to get. That said, I don't think he's being redundant enough with the MC's equipment and supplies. But then again, the author trying hard to keep the survival plans limited to the MC. Even to the point of being heartless to the pretty, damsel-in-distress-type girl who works next door.

My main nitpick, so far, is that the MC did not do any testing of his Dimensional Portal ability. While he may have encountered players who had it in the game (maybe? it wasn't specified), he definitely doesn't know how it works in reality. At first it was just presented as if the portal would open at the same spot at the other world. However, a few chapters later, he could open it directly to spots where he needed it to be. No explanation.

The world is severe not to give all humans powers or status though, making most of them doubt the warnings at all

Do they get powers? After reading that grimdark post apoc story, who’s name escapes me right now, I realized I prefer my post apoc stories with powers.

I just started reading this and I'm at ch20. Still counting to d-day. Wouldn't it be funny that after they bought all things for doomsday, the meteor didn't hit? The most they got is super powers. How much debt the people would have if it doesn't ever happen. Haha

I really enjoyed reading this, too bad the release speed is pretty slow.
