Chinese novels are choke full of capitalism - hospitals require exorbitant fees, universities and sects teach almost nothing for free and exploit students by requiring them to perform dangerous jobs in order to pay for tutors or lessons, all good skill manuals and textbooks are closely guarded secrets and are sold for sky-high prices... The latter part is even more ridiculous in settings where Internet is a thing and Humanity is on the brink of extinction/under enormous threat from various monsters. Are there any novels where the above is not true - where people can get free healthcare, students can concentrate on their main job (learning things!), where almost all manuals and textbooks (sans maybe some close military secrets) are accessible for free in in-world Wikipedia/online library...?
Searching,....... I recall none. Not even IET work where he writes it like chinaexpy state officials are benevolent bureaucratical gods. Because while his MCs can sometimes seemingly get shit like supreme techniques or most of their needed resources for advancement for free, its always preceded with a but. But this wasn't left willingly, the old cultivator just died of story reasons before making use of this highly valuable stuff. But their backing sect/state/god emperor is giving all this stuff like a student loan only to the most talented and accomplished cultivator (already contributing back meaningfully and expected to return even more in work after reaching certain cultivation milestones). But the old fart sponsoring them always has some ridiculous goal as his final request that can't be denied or failed if you wish the top treasure stuff that can push you to immortality,....... And a hundred other such reasons. Its never, not even on the most basic level anything approaching free. You'd think it odd, but then recall this comes from the same culture where scandals like selling fake eggs is a thing that's an actual serious scam and happens with everything else. Read some news of latest 'china proves reality is more absurd than fiction' variety and realise all the knockoff pills, resources, techniques are actually completely normal in a world populated solely by chinese because the author never cared nor bothered to try write anything non chinese.
Happy socialism is unbelievable for its victims, sad socialism gets you banned in China. I think most cultivation worlds practice feudalism, not capitalism. Feudalism is when only the strong can participate in the economy, the weak can't protect what they earn and have no reason to try anything. Socialism is when only the popular can participate, it's dominated by hypocrites and unrealistic promises. Capitalism is for everyone. It's an unachievable Utopia, since taking resources from weakened neighbors is human nature. But even fake capitalism can generate insane profit from insane participation.
I'm not asking for Utopia or socialism. I'm asking for socialistic economies - basic welfare net financed by taxes that exists in European social democracies would fit the requirement just fine. (and given that we are talking about fiction, even actual socialism shouldn't be out of the equation). Even novels that have some elements of that, like "Earthlings are Insane", still resort to endangering students and implement Intellectual Property barriers for information.
