Only psychopaths do that and psychopaths cant love at all. 3- he saw her as an extension of himself. The MC is everything daddy wants to be. Loved by all. Thus knowing she came from him he developed a fondness (like one might have towards a pet lizard) but really wasnt the love of a parent. "But he sacraficed himself to save her". Uh no. See hes a narccacist. And most narccacists are willing to harm themselves if there creation would go on acting like how they want. There legacy in a way Anway stan zuko.
i really don't think he is a narcissist. he harbors a lot of self hatred and has explicitly said multiple times that he doesn't want anything left of himself in this world... a narcissist would want the opposite.
The answer to that was even mentioned. That's how he (and Asisi) atone for their sins. Afterall, dying is an easier escape. Also, even IRL there are people who hate themselves to the point they think they don't even deserve to kill themselves.
