    So what is the Chinese name for "phoenix feather or vermillion feather?" ....cause I'm looking for a name with the surname Fang or Zhu....

    凤毛麟角 -> fèng máo lín jiǎo -> lit. phoenix feather and unicorn horn

    So 毛 might work for you.

    It's mainly the meaning.
    Zhou Yu couldn't be male name and female name.

    "Yu" 羽 as in feather is an extremely masculine name. The most famous people with it in their names are Xiang Yu and Guan Yu so I don't even know if it's possible to get more masculine than this. Generally you shouldn't be able to tell the gender of a name based purely on how it looks in pinyin; you'll have to look at the Chinese characters used.

    Phoenix as in "Feng" (凤) can be used in male or female names. Probably more common with female names but I've seen famous male characters use have it in their names.

    Phoenix as in "Huang" (凰) is much more feminine and I'd be surprised if a male character were to have it in his name.
