don't think so.
1. alan & iris are not familiar with the language. there should've been some records/traces of ancient languages.
2. no magic. considering what it can do, there is no reason to bury magic completely - in favor of pure tech.
3. the "fact" was brought up by secondary characters. similar meaning, but different form. in earth history there are many ancient words/terms left behind, but their meaning have been lost. form tends to stay much longer than meaning; especially since meaning/connotation might change (e.g: (no offense intented) - nigga)

a decent read; but nowhere near a masterpiece.

imho the title is misleading, because the main plot is not about "adventuring" but "kingdom building" instead. unfortunately it also falls under the "penny-wise pound-foolish" trope that gets in the way of immersion into the kingdom building / management plot.

 

One thing that has started to really get on my nerves is the whole chapters devoted to food. I always felt those could use a good nip/tuck.
