Every damn time!!, Is there a cultural significance to it? Or is it simply because they think it's cool? I mean it is cool power but it just became generic to me after a few novels
Lazy writing and easy path for OPness. They can't write quality fight scenes so it's always a Zombie rush against the enemies.
This could be it, but I've actually read amazing fight scenes by some authors but still end up having necromancer powers.
Hmm, I kinda want to see what Korean authors would do with Paladins now. Come to think of it, I haven't read a KR novel like that
When you want to have a bunch of allies / team fights but don't want to deal with writing personalities or relationships, Necromancy is your best friend. It's somewhere between "summoner" and "golem user" in terms of character-building laziness. I would mind it less if the necromancer didn't usually do most of the fighting with a sword anyway despite having undead minions and powerful magic.
There's still the Assassin edgelord, dark knight edgelords, Oh this makes alot of sense, now that I think of this it also makes the character technically solo so the author don't have to worry about sharing reward
not certain if true of not, but years ago I heard Diablo 2 had something to do with Necromancers becoming popular in Korea back when it was the new hotness...
