I don't mind yuri but I dislike most of it because it's either written by a dude and is basically your generic haremshit except the MC doesn't have a dick or are retardedly melodramatic.
It's hard finding good yuri that isn't either gender bender or just super drama heavy. I like cute and fluffy yuri.
I like it quite a bit, it's pretty sweet overall~ Usually speaking, if you like shoujo, you have high chances of liking yuri. Main difference is that mediocre shoujo will have very boring and bland male leads which are either A) Perfect and boring. B) Ruthless to everyone except the MC. OTOH, on Mediocre yuri, you'll at the very least have two female leads that are actually developed and feel like real characters, so it tends to be more enjoyable~ Of course, everyone prefers to read the good stories over the mediocre ones, but... There is a certain charm to yuri in knowing that the floor of the genre is higher than the floor of shoujo~ Most Yuri is written by women, with women as the target audience though? The most common type of yuri is usually just shoujo, but with two female leads instead of a female protagonist and a male lead.
Only gender bender and harem Yuri was written by male author. I avoid this genre. Other genre romance Yuri novel was written by female author or lesbian author. It have great story and interesting plot.
The only thing I dislike about the yuri genre in general is the common trope of an extremely dark past one or both of the female leads has. It's fine every now and then and I get that the genre lends itself to that, but I wish the author would stop beating me over the head with how awful the characters' lives have been. I like more sweetness and less bitterness. If I compare yuri to chocolate I guess I prefer milk chocolate over dark chocolate.
There's a lot of milk chocolates or even sweet candies out there, you can ask the residents in Yuri land if you want to eat some. Ppl like sweetness after all
