So the Balto people are indeed causing trouble.. Besides the Richt Breston pig putting Maxi in danger by putting stupid ideas into that Alex commanders head, what does this all have to do with Riftan giving Maxi the cold shoulder? We see he deeply cares about her but I’ve not quite connected the puzzle, just speculating..
Balto was the first territory to rebel against Roem. With Arex’s army crippled, it makes the territory easier for the taking later. Likely, they seized the ships because the delay of supplies and scarcity of food would increase their odds of at least one nation being provoked into action. The fact that they were Anatolian ships was an ego stroke and added bonus. While not directly related to his detached attitude, Balto will only continue their antics South, eventually causing direct strife with Whedon. Richt will make it personal because it is and with Riftan as the target, Maxi becomes the arrow.

See we know that there was issue with Anatol ship so Uslin had to come all the way here to meet Riftan. And note this, after coming back from there,both Uslin and Elliot gave a nervous look to Maxi while Riftan was taking her to their room. And Riftan started behaving cold towards Maxi. It's all because once Riftan got to know that Richt is trying to create problem with the war and wants to destroy seven kingdom peace treaty Riftan knew a new war is coming and Riftan doesn't want Maxi to be a part of it because 1. He loves her but knows how Maxi can put her life into danger once she'll know that Riftan is taking part in war and she wants to stand beside him. 2. Richt always targetted Riftan. And once Richt met maxi, Richt knows that putting Maxi in danger is a way of getting war like response from Riftan and RMD. And once RMD is involved, Whedon royal Army will come eventually and then Sejour will come since he's close to Riftan. And then all rest will come to fight resulting an invalid seven kingdom peace treaty. So if Riftan would treat Maxi coldly ,Maxi naturally would start maintaining her distance with Riftan and she might go to tower for another year and won't be a part of Balto's war. Because World tower has no relation with the seven kingdom peace treaty and this is the only way Riftan can keep Maxi safe

Yes this is sooo well thought and reasonable. I also want to add that is the third time that author Nim highlight the fact that the Pope and the kings (this time Balto’s one) are incredibly and strangely young looking when in fact they should appear older. This is so suspicious, moreover how in hell they did not find at all any dark wizards but only tombs…I cannot help but wonder if this is all connected…
With Balto trying hard to break the Peace Treaty, I’m sure we might have a 3rd book! This time, My lady will be able to fight by her husband’s side just like how she always wanted. Songs and poetries about their love story will be sang everywhere. And for the chapter 35 of the manga, OMG!!!! It’s so great that we are able to see how people in Calypse castle thinks about Max and Rudis POV too about their relationship too. A super sweet and lovely chapter to warm up my holiday. Can’t wait for more!!!
Thanks for this thought! Makes sense because he has tried to plead with her before to stay out of danger and war with poor success. I guess he thinks that as long as she thinks he doesn’t care and ignores her, it will make her retreat and go to the WT. I guess we all know that won’t happen knowing how stubborn she is or that at least she’ll find a way to contribute no matter what It remains to be seen whether she finds out more and decides to intervene or if she will be forced into it because as mentioned it would be a direct way to get at Riftan.
I feel Riftan and RMD would try their best to hide this Balto problem but maxi would get to know from either Agnes/Sejour/Ruth/WT Friends and maxi would try to secretly handle the matter wherein it will result a great victory for Riftan but by that time maxi would be extremely hurt because of RMD/Riftan's cold behaviour that she'll decide to go for WT . And then we'll have book 3 Yes it's really strange the way author keeps on showing the difference in their appearance and age. In case of dark wizards is there a possibility wherein the dark wizards would work with Balto guys? Idk but it's very strange they couldn't find the dark wizards,so I think in 55 chapters only Balto problem will be dealt and we might have book 3 for dark wizards I really feel maxi would play a very important role and I so badly want she fights along with Riftan and it would be Riftan who would ask her to fight(which can never happen based on Riftan's attitude). But if we'll see, this 7 kingdom peace treaty war would only be between knights and Wizards won't be a part of it.

The topic with the dark wizards is far from over I’m sure… This doesn’t sound crazy at all! I have lots of theories too, crazy or not, but they include the legend, dark wizards, Maxis Roem bloodline and whatever Ruth found out in the monster city while using dark taboo magic to control the Wyverns. I’m 100% sure that the next chapter will be another riftans pov. I wish its about his maxi. What he’s been thinking all the time and the explanation of his cold shoulder to her. I miss reading his pov about his admiration for her something like “the woman whom he valued more than his life” oh its heart melting. But his lack of communication skills is killing me mygoodness. Maxi was having a wrong impression to the point now she doesn’t know if she’ll ever forgive him. And agnes, back off! You’re not helping. Even the expedition is over this bitch still wants to stick to him. Sorry for the word I’m starting to get annoyed to her. isn’t she was in her right age and should be matured enough that her actions can hurt someone.
