Since this series is getting semi-active again, I had the urge to reread this. I think the adaptation did a good job in adapting MCs denial of her suppressed memory and ofc powerful being/godlike individual being shady. So far, I think the only thing they failed is showing Alex's fears of the spoilers here where he has visions/premonition of killing his sister. The adaptation for me failed to show his worries.
I also remember reading the spoilers at Dex before that her fiance candidate target Rust is also gay, can anyone verify this?
How about the crack theory that Klifford is future Syl? I wonder how that theory came to be?
I'm also kinda confused on the Syl backstory. Because of my terrible habit of speedreading, I thought the cloaked guy who saved Syl was the same guy Klifford took down before who is apparently a traitor?
Any spoilers on Derek? Derek mentioned he got bullied by MC but MC admits he striked first and she just held a grudge?
Or who will MC give her first dance on the 3 guys?

Setting is always important to the plot. Plus the debates reveal a lot about the issues (in this case the setting) at hand.

(I'm using Google Translate because my English is not the best, if there is any error I'm sorry)

About the part in which the protagonist is sent to Olivia's body according to the manga, it is totally forced, she did not even have a "choice".

I read above that someone was mentioning it but details were missing. For example Rust (or whatever sent her into that world) talked about some of his companions killed her by mistake trying to murder a man.

The requirements for him and his companions to kill is that these men must be society's garbage. But his companions would even kill young people.
He says they are even sent to worlds of torture to see if from the bottom they can reform themselves to see if humanity has that conviction. Only as an experiment, Humans are their lab rats.

The protagonist then pleads that if she has that power to please return her to her world, that she wants to be with her friends and family.

Then "Rust" refuses saying that because he would have to go through that problem (I guess reviving the same soul that once died) Why would he do that for an insect.
He then made a comparison of how humans do not care about the insects they killed and how they even wished they had died.

Then after breaking the protagonist by calling her an insect and that even her death would not have a great impact on the world, he proceeds to make her an "offer".

It was less problematic for him to build the world and then she could also be happy, the main character refuses saying that it will not make her happy, but the guy gets angry and says that if he does not accept it, he will be put into the world where she will be a tortured soul until that dies and can never be reincarnated.

He starts dragging her into the bad world and rushes her to choose, so in order not to be tortured and killed she has no choice but to go to the world of the novel.

At least that's how it was in the manga.

As someone who's obsessively obsessed with this novel and manga (or rather I'm obsessed with Clifford), I'll share what I know with anyone who's interested.

Regarding the light novel, you find the original raws in Japanese here: https://ncode.syosetu.com/n1094dl/

Also, the story is faaaaaaar from being even remotely close to being finished. I would say that the story is still under development. The author and the manga artist are completely different people. The author is slower on the updates than the manga artist; their last chapter updated on the novel was five months ago. The manga artist has sort of picked it back up (and this is my interpretation though, since I had to use google translate for the Japanese tweets), because there was a reprint of the manga last year since the artist was grateful about it.
I'm a bit worried about the updates now because I think they're commissioned for the mushoku tensei manga, and I'm worried that the artist will focus more on that manga, especially since it's pretty popular for some reason (Seriously, I hear about mushoku tensei everywhere).

The English translation for the manga..... is even slower. There was an update for 12.1...and that's about it. If you want to read the raws, go to https://rawdevart.com/comic/im-opportunistic-princess-charge-solving-things/. While it has all the updated raws, only chapter 16.4 is missing. You can also alternatively check out the manga at the sites listed in Post #229.

Alsoooooo, to anyone who's interested, there are the Clifford x Octavia moments I keep rereading and going crazy over :blobphone: Well, it's more like a general summary of the series, but meh. Potato-Patato.

Please understand I had to use Google translate because I can't read Japanese:blobcry:

    - Starting after 13.1 (English translated manga), Octavia sees Rust after he removes his mask, which brings up her trauma and causes her to run away, with Clifford running behind. She locks herself in a room and basically hyperventilates over her past memory of dying and meeting the "God" that looks like Rust (hence why she ran away) and who put her in the BL world. Clifford knocks on her door, and she lets him in. She cried and is still technically on the verge of tears but she tries to suppress it and wears a mask (also the room is kinda dark). He enters the room and he's wide-eyed as he sees, and she worries that he might have already found out that something's wrong. But he doesn't question her and turns to the door to leave (after a small convo with her). But just he does, Octavia's mask falls off, and Clifford has already turned around, astonished, at seeing her crying face. She's embarrassed, and panics and turns around. At this time, two male lovers are trying to find a room to be alone in, and they see a room with a door open (it's the same room with Octavia and Clifford in it). She's panicking over the men seeing her, but then Clifford holds her from behind and tells her something along the lines "Please punish me later".:blobnosebleed:
The men enter the room and see Clifford and they're like "Aren't you the Princess's escort knight?" But Clifford kinda sneers back at them and says something like "Are you gonna tell what you saw?" (Keep in mind the room is dark, and Octavia is in front of Clifford, while Clifford's back is to the men. Since Octavia is smaller in comparison to Clifford, the men didn't see her). The men deny that saying that everything is forgotten during the night of the ball or something, but they basically don't spread the rumors.
    - After Clifford tells them that they're gone, he tries to remove his hands from her waist, but she grabs his hands in place, which kinda surprises him.
    - After that Octavia says that he hid her, and Clifford says because that was her order (referring to their practice dance when he asked her for an order (lol) and she asked him (wanting more of a promise than an order) to hide her if she ever cries). Then she says that she fails as his lord, but he assures her that she didn't. Then, his face kinda darkens and he asks who made her cry. And she asks if he'll kill that person, and he says if it's her order. She then tells the reader about her worries in her inner thoughts. I don't think she told Clifford though since it has to do with her reincarnation. She eventually removes Clifford's hands to stand up, and, with a teary smile, orders Clifford to lend her his chest (to cry on). He was surprised at first (because it was unexpected I think), and then smiles and widens his arms. She jumps on his chest and cries hard.
    - This small bit isn't in the manga, but the novel states that Clifford clumsily patted her head to comfort her (just as he did in the carriage), and she looks up at him. He apologises and says something like "sorry, extra things" (at least that was the translation, but I think it meant he's doing things that are out of his duties as a knight and she might be uncomfortable with it) but she doesn't hate it. He does pat her head in the manga though.
    - When she's done crying, she takes a quick look at the wall mirror in the room and sees her puffy eyes after crying which shocks her (Clifford's just standing there with a question mark on her head lol). She goes to her maid to get her makeup redone. One of the maids gives Clifford a change of attire (it's a white suit, similar to the vol 3 cover). He's like "But I'm an escort knight", but she pushes him out to go get changed lol. I'm not sure about the translation here, but I think he finds the environment here and the one on the battlefield different. We also get some shirtless fanservice of Clifford's abs. :blobnosebleed::blobnosebleed::blobnosebleed::blobnosebleed::blobnosebleed::blobnosebleed::blobnosebleed::blobnosebleed:
    - He gets changed and goes back to Octavia. Just before he enters the room, he looks at his hand and remembers where he patted Octavia's head and wonders why he did that (i think in terms of maybe he's never been in a situation where he needed to comfort someone). When he enters the room, the maids and Octavia are like wow when they see him. He asks if something's wrong, she tells him "Nah, you look good" (not in those exact words lol).
    - Apparently, Octavia's hair clip fell somewhere when she ran away from Rust, so one of the maids gives Octavia a flower to put in her hair. They have something of a tradition where the guy puts a flower in the girl's hair, like lovers or something (at least's what I got out of it). But she quickly apologizes because that's a commoner's tradition. But Octavia doesn't mind because it reminds her of her past life when her older sister used to put flowers in her hair. Clifford puts the flower in her hair, (as the maids fangirl in the background, I swear I think they ship it as much as I do).
    - Also this next part is from a side story, that narrates from a knight named Guy's POV. When he goes to the room that Octavia and Clifford were practicing dancing, he sees Clifford in a battle-ready mode he hides Octavia behind her, and he becomes scared (sine he's one of the people who's seen Clifford in battle as Ongarne). At first, he's scared but when he looks at Clifford and Octavia together, who are both wearing black, I think he was kinda mesmerized at seeing the two like that.
    - Octavia's two maids (one of them is named Sarah) in the room weren't trusting Guy because he doesn't have his identification token(?), so they do a body search. As they do, he looks at Clifford and Octavia who are gathering their weapons that were set aside for the dance practice. Octavia picked up his sword and she says that its pretty heavy. Guy was panicking, because princess Octavia was touching Ongarne's sword, and was afraid that he might hurt her because of this. But, to his surprise, Clifford just politely thanks her and gives her hand fan, which is her "weapon", with a smile.
    - This part is only in the light novel, but in Guy's POV side story, he notices that, during the conversation between Octavia and her younger brother, Alex, there's a jolt of electricity that runs through her cheek. Clifford notices that too and almost runs to her but he stops (he thought she might have been in danger).
    - This part is in the manga. It's a one-page extra and it's kinda funny. So Clifford and Octavia are in the garden (the one from vol. 1). Clifford gets on one knee and offers her a flower with a smile, and she's flattered. The moment looks so sweet. And then there's Guy, who was behind a bush and scared, as he imagined evil smiles on both Clifford and Octavia's faces lol.
    - There's also the question around who Octavia's lover could be. Sil, at the ball, thinks it might be Clifford. This is because when Sil was sleeping in Octavia's carriage, he woke up (because he heard Octavia's sounds during her nightmare). He saw Clifford gently looking at Octavia and he (clumsily) patted her head during her nightmare. (Her head was also on his arm btw). So that's why he thinks it could be him.

There's actually more, but I'll write the rest later because I need to sleep.

So here are the other moments :

    - So after Clifford and Octavia basically freshened up (and my boy Clifford is in a white suit), they finally talk with Rust in the garden. I'm not exactly sure about what the conversation between Octavia and Rust is about, but regarding Clifford, some hooded baddies suddenly came out to assassinate Octavia (they were looking for Sill, I think?) and Octavia is panicking. But Clifford is completely calm and asks her to order him. And so she orders him to take them down, and does so WITHOUT EVEN UNSHEATHING HIS SWORD. Octavia is wowed and runs to Clifford after he defeats them, asking if he's hurt anywhere and he's not. I think the novel actually stated that Clifford easily defeated them without a scratch or breaking a sweat. Even his white suit was perfectly clean and proper despite him fighting many enemies.
    - Then some more talk with Rust, and he tries to aim the pointy corner of his mask at Octavia, and Clifford immediately pulls Octavia to him (he's basically holding her close with one hand), and blocks Rust's mask with his sword. He keeps the corner of the sword at Rust's neck, while Octavia continues to talk with Rust, after she tells Clifford she still needs to talk to him. Clifford replies okay but he'll keep sword up in case he does anything.
    - I'm not sure about this part either, but I think Rust is something bad about Clifford like a warning or something. (Clifford is Ongarne to most of the soldiers and knights, but the aristocracy also knows him as the adopted son of Count Alderton whose ancestor led a failed rebellion against the crown so he has somewhat of a bad reputation because he's an Alderton. I mean, the King told Octavia that he's like poison, but that's because he's Ongarne to the King.) Octavia says something and Clifford smiles and bows to her.
    - The three go somewhere, I guess to look for Sill. They stop by a room. Octavia orders Clifford (just by saying his name) to open the door first. As he opens the door, Clifford blocks a sword easily with one hand. The person who attacked is Derek. When he saw it was Octavia and Clifford, he calmed down. Apparently, he took down some knights and tied them up. Some more convo (that I didn't really focus on because Clifford is best boy).
    - Then Rust goes to the throne in the room. The room shakes and (at least in the manga) Clifford quietly puts one hand on Octavia to hold her steady. The throne actually moved to reveal a secret passageway.
    - They enter the tunnel with Clifford in front of Octavia (but Rust is the one in front of him as he's the one leading the trio).
    - They find this passageway. Octavia in her inner thoughts comments on how clean it is and pictures the enemies eagerly cleaning the place. She humorously smiles at this and Clifford and Derek are looking at her. Derek is confused while Clifford is just unreadable (I love him tho. He's just casually looking at her).
    - And then as the conversation is going on between Octavia and Rust, and Octavia and Derek, she quietly looks at Clifford because she wants to ask him something, but because Derek and Rust are there she doesn't know if she should. But Clifford already knew she was staring at him and turned to look at her and asked yes, what is it? So she asked him if the enemies show up and fight, should she run away? (I'm not exactly sure what they are, but the translation calls them "musicians", but I'm pretty sure that's inaccurate, so I'm just gonna call them enemies). Octavia doesn't want to be a burden in the fight because she knows that she's weak (this is also something that Rust said in the garden). Clifford just smiles and tells her not to worry and that she just do what she wants because he'll protect her. (In the novel, she actually asks him if now is a good time to talk).
    - A bit later as they're walking, Clifford becomes alert and quickly stands in front of Octavia. They see a bunch of baddies already knocked out on the floor. Derek just straight up tears their shirts and uses it as a makeshift rope to tie them up. He was able to tie up the knights earlier because they had rope on them. Octavia then tells Clifford to help him out and he also tears their shirts and uses it as a makeshift rope to tie them up :blobrofl::blobrofl::blobrofl: I swear this scene was so weird especially since both men are straight (still unbeknownst to Octavia lol).
    - So after tying them up, there's a scene where Clifford picks up one of the swords from the enemies. He unsheathes and looks at the graving, telling Octavia that the sword is from Tahren (which is actually where Clifford is from, so he easily knows). I'm a little confused about this next part, but there's some talk about "obey", which is the translation, but I think it's actually about the "jyuu", which is what Clifford is. Someone, I think Derek, says something about the "obey" don't condone these things (not sure what things exactly), and Clifford just replies with a mocking smile "Must be some sweet/naive "obey" [jyuu]".
    - Skipping to the scene where there are a bunch of enemies in a room and Sill actually passed out in the back. Clifford, Derek and Rust easily take out the incoming enemies. Apparently, (I think) the enemies were fighting against themselves (for Sill?) but stopped are now hostile to Octavia. Octavia is conversing with the leader and I think she threatens him that backup will be coming soon (which is not really a threat, because she does tell some knight captain, and her Uncle later comes to help them). Clifford stands in front of Octavia as one of the enemies unsheaths his sword. The enemies become more hostile. Octavia just tells Clifford that she needs to get to Sill. Clifford tells her "Leave it me". In the manga, at least he kinda maliciously smiling as he says while looking at the enemies. Clifford is generally a calm and dutiful person, but the introduction of him in the novel does state that at times he does have a "wild side", so I'm assuming he's kinda happy to have a fight (knowing he'll win despite the numbers lol).
    - Clifford easily blocks all enemies as Octavia makes her way to Sill. She looks at the words on a tombstone(?) and realizes that it belongs to the forgotten queen of Espehere who was killed by her brother. Clifford then quickly grabs Octavia and moves away as a sword slashes towards Octavia. Sill woke but his eyes are kinda hypnotized so he has a sword and attacked Octavia.

Here's where the last update of manga ends. The rest below is from the light novel:
    - Sill is attacking Octavia who is held by Clifford with one arm as the other is easily blocking Sill's attacks with his sword.
    - Clifford tries to attack Sill, but Octavia quickly bangs his arm to get his attention and tells him not to kill Sill. The novel states that Clifford is "disgusted" and tells her that he's trying to kill her so why does she need him alive. During the fight, Octavia had to put her arms around Clifford's neck for support.
    - Octavia has an idea and tells Clifford that she want to try something, so she asks him for his dagger (he keeps one in his boot and one in his cuff) and to get close to Sill as possible. At first, he's reluctant until Octavia tells him (a little reluctantly) that it's an order. He, despite being reluctant, gives her the dagger, and she cuts her hand. The blood from her hand was the only thing that stained Clifford's white suit.
    - Clifford immediately grabs her wrist, and he's kinda angry because she hurt herself (for Sill, might I add). (manga image)
    - The blood calms Sill down and he passes out.
    - Then Clifford has to fight with a bunch of other enemies. There's one guy named Emilio who's an "obey" (I just skimmed through really). Clifford easily defeats him and Octavia tells him to let him live (for interrogating I guess) and once again Clifford just grins (he's kinda happy when there's a fight, but he's a good boi, I swear).
    - Also, somewhere around this time, Octavia's Uncle shows up. He's not really her Uncle, but Derek's dad who is also a duke. He favors Octavia more than Derek since he would usually scold Derek when he bullied Octavia when they were young. She also admires him because he's one of the rare heterosexual men who love their wives wholeheartedly in Espehere. Plus, he cleans.
    - So after all that, when the enemies are defeated, Clifford turns to Octavia, and Octavia notices that Clifford is kinda mad (because of the cut on her hand). He goes to her and, on one knee on the floor, he takes her hand that was wounded and tears of a piece of his sleeve to give her hand first-aid.
    - He then tells her that he's angry, and she's like "sorry, what?" And repeats that he's angry.
    - She wanted to apologise at first, but then thought of changing the subject, so she asked if he was a double handler for the sword, but he says he's mostly right-handed, but can use both hands. Octavia can't read Clifford at all, some more sword talk (I think Clifford also let go of his sword earlier in the battle, judging from the conversation, because it might've caused a fatal injury, I'm gonna wait for the manga for a better understanding of the fight since I just skimmed through the novel). Octavia finally asks if he's angry at her, and he tells her he's angry at her and himself. She asks him why him, and then he asks her if she cares about Burkes. Burkes is Sill's last name, and the fact that Clifford is calling by his last name just shows that he doesn't really care about the guy. Octavia that he could potentially future family (by marrying her brother), but apparently that's not the truth. She says she doesn'. want to suffer unnecessary wounds, and Clifford tells her that "Don't you care about your own wounds, even though you care about Burkes getting hurt?" She says that that's not what she's talking about, and then Clifford tells her that she should've just commanded him. She's like but I did, he's like no, you said to get capture the "obey/obedience" and Burkes alive, you didn't need to bleed. He says it doesn't make sense why she has to hurt herself while he's protecting her, and that his master's wounds make him angry while he's nearby even if it was Octavia who deliberately made the wound, so he's angry at himself for being unable to stop her. He says this while looking at her wound. Octavia says that he had ordered him (so he doesn't need to blame him basically), but he just says "Still". Octavia says but that's what the "shuu" are about (you know, obeying the master's orders) and he replies with void "... yeah, maybe it is".
    - Because Clifford is kneeling, Octavia is able to see a large cut on Clifford's neck. She tries to reach out and Clifford notices so he looks up, which hides the wound. Octavia believed he got hurt, but Clifford, even without her saying anything, knew she saw his scar and assured her that it was an ancient wound. She's like "really?", and he tells her she can confirm it if she wants. He tilts his neck to let her have a better view, and she touches it. Clifford's knight outfit had a longer collar so she wasn't able to see the scar before. She asks him if there's any pain. He tells her "There isn't. It just left a lot of marks." She doesn't really like this and was afraid that Clifford might have gotten hurt. It really makes her sad. He calls out to her when she becomes quiet, and she tells him that you're angry because I got hurt, but I would get angry if you got hurt. He says "... the same, is it?" She tells him that if he gets hurt while protecting her, it'll make her angry, so it's not enough to just protect her, he needs to make sure he protects himself. He tells him but he's not hurt, she replies but you got this wound before. She tells him if he serves her, she won't tolerate any more injuries.
    - Clifford is kinda speechless, and really gently holds the uninjured hand that's touching his neck, and kisses the back of her hand as he tells her "... don't get hurt".
    - The symbol on her hand (that's associated with Clifford as her 'shuu') glows red. I think Clifford then grins, stating that the glowing symbol is a "testament" to her orders.
    - Some stuff conversation later with the Uncle, Octavia and Clifford are walking. I think there's blood on the floor. So, Clifford quietly says excuse me and picks Octavia in a princess carry (or bridal carry, take your pick). She's flustered and says "Clifford?". He says "Yes, what is it?" Without waiting for her response, he tells her that he believed that it was better for her to not walk on her own since the floor is dirty. She's kinda happy on the inside because one of her dreams of being princess carried are being fulfilled. She then asks him if she's heavy, and he tells her no but it would better if she put her hands around his neck like she did earlier (i swear, he is subconsciously flirting with her!!!!! :blobmelt::blobmelt::blobmelt:) She asks if that'll make it easier for him to walk and he says yes. So she does what he says and is amazed how she was able to subconsciously to do so during the earlier fight. He asks why way would you like me to take you, and they go to the sky room (?)
    - Some convo with Rust and Uncle. Octavia says to Clifford to put her down, and he asks "Are you sure?" (do you not want to put her down:blobnosebleed::blobnosebleed::blobnosebleed::blobnosebleed:)
    - During a convo with Uncle, Clifford catches his eye (not in a homosexual way since Esphere is a kingdom with a lot of gay couples). He says that there seems to be a lot of trust with the knight, and he didn't expect him to "flirt with the "obey" like that and win" (weird translation but I think it means the "obey" in the earlier fight) Although Clifford was being praised, Octavia was happy and called Clifford her "proud knight". He then says that he thought the knight was supposed to be obedient, and it was illusory. She realized he overheard her and Clifford's earlier convo (ig the one about they're angry if the other gets hurt). The Uncle knows that Clifford is Ongarne's Messenger (Clifford has diverse names; Ongarne, Ongarne's Messenger, Envoy of Hell, Messenger of Hell(?) and, by the fandom, guy who gives serious Sebastian vibes). Octavia wants to ask about Ongarne's Messenger, and he tells her that it's about a guy who fought against the Sazah religion but also attacked the troops from Esphere. Octavia wonders if Ongarne's Messenger was also "obedience", but the Uncle just thinks that Ongarne's Messenger was a genius.
    - Clifford and Octavia are walking through the tunnel, and Octavia keeps slipping. Each time she called Clifford and he helped her until it was decided that Clifford had to princess carry her again. In his arms, she feels sleepy. She can hear his heart and apologizes to him for making him worry earlier. She felt that he was smiling at her and he just said "... Yes."

There's a bit more left after this. I'll post it later.

I wanted to clear up a bit about the Uncle's convo about Ongarne. He doesn't exactly say that he knows that Clifford is Ongarne. He doesn't even tell Octavia that Clifford is Ongarne. He just tells her who Ongarne is (like what he did to earn that name) and his thoughts on him.

But it's highly likely that the Uncle does know that Clifford is Ongarne. I mean his son, Derek, knew, so I'm pretty sure his dad does too, since the Uncle is a smart man. He didn't clarify it to her, and I'm sure he knows that she doesn't know that Clifford is Ongarne. I guess the reason he doesn't tell her is 1) not a good time, they were dealing with the enemies who were ready to attack her, and 2) he does say that he's happy she finally has a knight she can trust, just like her maids. Though, unlike her maids, the Uncle knows the truth, but he doesn't tell her even though the Uncle cares about her. I'm assuming he's aware of the constant changes of knights so she doesn't have any expectations of her escort knights. But Clifford has been around for more than three months, and so she finally learns his name, he becomes her "jyuu", he does a great job of protecting her and helping her out, especially as she asks for his opinions like picking out a dress for her wear at the ball. Of course, these are the things we know, but the Uncle can easily discern their relationship from their convo.

EDIT: But, at the same time, he's highly cautious of Clifford, and tells him he could never sleep near him (meaning letting his guard down near him). The Duke tells Clifford to his face (and a sleeping Octavia) that he doesn't like him (but daddy duke, he gonna be your son-in-law :blobsad:), but he is Octavia's choice so he hopes that he doesn't hurt her and becomes someone she can show her real weakness in front of which isn't just complaining about something. Much like how she allowed herself to cry in front of him after running away from Rust who liked the jerk god. But he isn't persuading her to let him go either, likely due to the reasons stated above

I also want to add that, I know I said "Clifford is Ongarne to most of the soldiers and knights, but the aristocracy also knows him as the adopted son of Count Alderton whose ancestor led a failed rebellion against the crown so he has somewhat of a bad reputation because he's an Alderton." I want to clarify that a bit.

So while he is both those things, only the King, Celius, Derek, the Uncle I assume, and the two heterosexual knights (Guy and his colleague, an unnamed soldier) know that Clifford is Ongarne. Alexis dislikes Clifford because he's an Alderton. He already wanted him gone, but, if he know that Clifford is Ongarne, I'm assuming he would start attacking right there and then because he would've believed that Clifford would hurt his sister.

Another identity of Clifford is that he's the knight who scored the lowest in the knight test. Most of the imperial knights in the palace seem to know Clifford from that I think, since, in the later chapters, one of Celius's knights asked why did Octavia choose a knight who scored the lowest. We as the readers, as well as Octavia, know that that's not the truth and Clifford is really strong (boi said he actually intentionally scored the lowest on the test lol).

Ah my poor boi, Clifford. He's got the worst attributes affiliated with him, but he just embraces it. Just like Octavia (black fan, flowers of hell, dancing with her brings about despair XD). But idc, Clifford, I love you~~~~

So in this post, I will be referring to Celius as Douche.

    Why?

    You'll see ....

    Also:
    Hugh = Hugh-pain-in-the-ass
    Nathan = Nothin'

    - So after Octavia falls asleep in Clifford's arms, she wakes up in her room in the palace. She finds out that Clifford's been imprisoned because 1) he failed to protect Octavia, since she has a hand injury and, 2) Douche accuses him of sabotaging Sil's carriage. :blobangery: Octavia even says to her father, the King, who visits and tells her all this, that she was the one who made that injury and ordered Clifford to give her his dagger. The King is like it doesn't matter :blobangery:
    - Because Octavia doesn't have an escort knight, she is assigned a knight named Hugh Roberts
    - At this point, Imma call him Hugh-pain-in-the-ass. This is because he is her older brother, Douche's, people. Apparently, he was supposed to be the original knight that was fixed to escort Octavia, until the King restricted Douche's command on that and let Octavia choose. That Douchey S.O.B wanted to put one of his people on Octavia to spy her (I mean it's pretty obvious, especially since Octavia herself says that his ppl treat her like crap). Hugh-pain-in-the-ass isn't even as loyal to Octavia as Clifford was. :blobsob::blobsob::blobsob::blobsob:
    - Moreover, Douche doesn't even let her visit Clifford! :blob_thor: Like wtf! Idc if he brainwashed! He needs to suffer BIG TIME!
    - Finally, Douche allowed her to see Clifford and she goes to the training ground where Clifford is being interrogated by Douche's goons knights. Their eyes meet and she tries to go to him. Hugh-pain-in-the-ass tries to stop her by grabbing her arm and tells him to let go.
    - One of the goons knights, Nathan Holden (Nothin' is what Im gonna call him, because he's got absolutely nothing on my boi Clifford) is trying to provoke Clifford and epically failing (he such a rude shit, pointing a sword at my boi when talking about Clifford :blobnobully:). Apparently, Clifford has said nothing at all about the accusations. Douche reprimands Nothin', then Nothin' asks Octavia why she chose Clifford because he had the lowest score on the knights exam. Obviously, our girl can't say that it was just a random selection since she didn't expect him to stick around. Octavia first says that anyone could have done it. Even if you stayed last in the exam, you were still last (rather than failing) so he did pass since he did have the qualifications to escort Octavia. Nothin' kinda buys but he also isn't completely satisfied with the answer, asking why she chose Clifford specifically. Nothin' hates lies, so she just tell that the reason she chose Clifford was because she liked him.:blob_pompom:
    - Here comes another good part. Nothin' tells her that Clifford said that he was the most preferred candidate to be Octavia's knight :bloblove::bloblove::bloblove: (he's my most preferred ML too ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) ) Octavia was kinda embarrassed but says "Yeah, you're right".
    - Nothin' thanks Octavia for her answer, but doesn't believe that Clifford defeated the enemies in the earlier fight. So he throws a sword at Clifford's feet with the intent to fight to prove that Clifford won (he's got nothin' on Clifford in battle either :blobuwu:). Clifford shows no agitation. Octavia understood because Clifford only follows Octavia's orders. So she told him to fight Nothin' and win without allowing either side to get badly hurt. Nothin' is kinda insulted because it implies that he is weak, and Clifford accepts Octavia's orders and picks up the sword to get ready to battle.
    - Just then Douche stops that battle and HAS THE AUDACITY TO SAY THAT HE'LL ACCEPT CLIFFORD'S STRENGTH IF HE BEATS EVERYONE IN THE TRAINING GROUND AT THE SAME TIME (NOW DO YOU UNDERSTAND WHY HE IS A DOUCHE! EVEN IF CLIFFORD IS STRONG, THAT IS JUST PLAIN ABUSE OF AUTHORITY! STOP BULLYING CLIFFORD!!!!!:blob_thor::blob_thor::blob_thor::blob_thor::blob_thor::blob_thor::blob_thor::blob_thor::blob_thor::blob_thor::blob_thor: :blobnobully::blobnobully::blobnobully::blobnobully::blobnobully::blobnobully::blobnobully:)
    - Obviously, Octavia is worried. Clifford just calls out her name, and tells her "If you want victory, please give me your orders". :bloblove: Octavia tells him "... you have to be intact too, Clifford. Remember that". Clifford laughs (according to the translation), and agrees.
    - After a bit of convo, Douche basically orders Nothin' to accept Clifford's victory if he wins this fight. Octavia asks Clifford to choose a weapon, and, after he smiles, he chooses a training spear. The training spear is dull and has crushed tips, so it looks more like a long metal stick, according to Octavia. Nothin' gives him a training spear, and Clifford gives him back the sword Nothin' threw near his feet. Douche asks both Octavia and Clifford if that's okay, as he looks aggressively towards Clifford (how dare you :blobspearpeek:) Clifford adds another condition that if the other side is defeated, they need to let go of their weapons. Douche agrees and tells Octavia that only Clifford is allowed to change weapons. I think Octavia finally found him annoying or this fight annoying. I hope it's the former. Anyways Nothin' didn't like it but couldn't say a thing, and Clifford just nodded faintly meaning he was okay with the conditions and everything.
    - Clifford epically defeated everyone and left Nothin' standing last. :blobpopcorn_cool:
    - So I think Nothin' was kinda playing dirty. Octavia ordered Clifford to make sure that either side was intact, and that was also one of the fight's conditions. If Nothin' gets badly hurt, Clifford loses, and this rude shit was deliberately trying to push himself into Clifford's spear. (For a guy who hates deception, this guy is dirty :blobspearpeek:)
    - Nothin' tries to slash Clifford's bottom but Clifford leaped. Clifford's spear stopped because Nothin' let go of his sword. Clifford won. Nothin' was on the ground on one knee (he wasn't hurt) and Clifford was standing.
    - Octavia asked Clifford if this is his strength, why did he score so low in the knight's exam. And Clifford replied that because it would've been a waste of his efforts. When Octavia asked what he meant, Clifford explained that 1) he's part of the Alderton family so they would never choose him and, 2) Octavia's knight was already fixed. The whole exam was formal. Thanks to the King, though, Octavia had the right to choose. When she then asked why didn't he dismiss himself from being a knight candidate, he replies that it was because it was his foster father's request.
    - Douche acknowledges that the fixed knight was Hugh-pain-in-the-ass.
    - While Clifford won the battle and his strength was acknowledged, he still wasn't clear of suspicion on sabotaging Sil's carriage. So Octavia asks Clifford about it, and he said didn't do it. Douche then asks why Clifford didn't say so in the first place. Octavia asks also why didn't he say anything about it. I'm a bit confused on this part. He says (according to Google Translate) "Where there is danger of crooks, where I stated the facts, I was deciding if it made any sense." When Octavia asks what he means, he says that on the day before of the ball, he was going back to his room after he did duties for the day, he noticed a shadow near Sil's carriage. When Octavia asked if Clifford means that he didn't find the shadow suspicious, he says yes. When asked why, he replies that like him, he was wearing Knight guard uniform and his sword had a golden decoration on his sword. Octavia states that the knight belonged to her brother. Octavia asked Douche if he sent someone to Sil's carriage, and Douche denies it. Octavia tells him not to ignore Clifford's statements (u tell em gurl, don't ignore Clifford :blobhero: :blobnobully:) But Douche just asks Clifford if he says the knight's face, which Clifford didn't. Douche asks then how do you know he's my knight guard? So Clifford informs them that he has a habit of checking people's weapons first.
    - In the original novel that Octavia is in, there was a scene where Hugh-pain-in-the-ass was accused and Douche had to order him to be taken into custody, but it was a ploy and the enemy won. I'm not exactly sure about this point.
    - Other knights are looking at Clifford as if Clifford was lying. (#dontbullyClifford :blobnobully:) Douche asks Clifford to basically swear that he's not lying under the name of the Sky God. Octavia interrupted and, tells Douche because he doesn't believe Clifford, had Clifford ally with her (the translation says "alliances" but I think it's basically making a swear). So it's like, if Clifford made an alliance with the Sky God, and he's found lying, he's punished. But, if he allies with Octavia, and he's caught lying, then the punishment lies on Octavia. Douche tells her that, and she just tells him, that if Hugh-pain-in-the-ass was suspected, he would do the same for him.
    - She calls forth Clifford and he easily jumps down from the stage he fought on. Douche tells she doesn't need to do this. Clifford asks her if he should ally himself with Sky God, and she asks if that's what he wants to do. He replies "... that's not how it is." So she tells him, no, and Clifford allies himself with her. During this, you have to give your weapon to the person you're allying with, and, together you have to hold it with your left hand. So Clifford's weapon is the spear, and they both hold it with their left hands (there's only fanart of this scene :derpyblob:). Octavia's left hand was injured and, as she was holding the spear, Clifford was staring at it :bloblove:He tells her that her left hand is still injured so she has to be careful. The spear wasn't heavy at all, it weighed less than paper (how can it weigh less than paper if it was made of metal? Am I lost in translation?). Clifford gave her a slightly troubled look and sent her a protesting gaze when she held the spear. She was like, but it's less than paper. (Seriously, or Celius-ly, get married!)
    - Douche is like okay fine we believe him. BUT he still says that Clifford is under surveillance until they know that he's innocent. Octavia kinda figured so didn't fight, but asked if he'll treat his guards the same since his guards are under suspicion. He says yeah. Poor Clifford didn't have an alibi. Hugh-pain-in-the-ass is fine because he has an alibi so he continues to escort Douche.
    - Actually, when Clifford isn't around and Hugh-pain-in-the-ass escorts her to her daily activities, like going to the library, she feels like something's missing and knows that it's Clifford. She knows that Clifford that become an important part of her life. :bloblove: (Mine too, Octavia, mine too).
    - In the next few chapters, Clifford isn't present AND IT HURTS ME :blobsob::blobsob::blobsob::blobsob: Don't bully him.
    - Long story short, she meets her "mom", the male queen of the King, Edgar, who has a better relationship with Douche, but for some reason tries to help Octavia out. Octavia comes with a plan to help Clifford and tells Douche's and Douch's boyfriend, Sil (I think Edgar helped arrange the meeting) that she'll have Clifford escort them to an inspection (?) where there might be the enemies, and they can see that Clifford's innocent. (I'm too sad that there's no Clifford so I didn't bother trying to understand. Get your man back, Octavia. :blob_patpat:)

That's it for the novel updates, which mostly includes Clifford. :bloblove::justabotheart:

There is a chapter that kind of looks at Clifford's perspective, in third person I think. This was actually something I found from a Japanese tweet. The chapter is called "The world seen by the messenger of Ongarne" (オンガルヌの使者』が見る世界) in the series. Unfortunately, I can't find it, since the title is missing. If anyone can find it, it would be great if you could share its exact location in the book.

    :blobnosebleed::blobnosebleed::blobnosebleed:

The manga also has some poster images of Clifford and Octavia which aren't available on the raws. I only have them because I have the whole digital manga volume with the additional images.

There's one in which Octavia dreams about Clifford in a traditional yukata and he has two swords. :blob_plusone: Also, for some reason his eyes look purple here, even though he has dark blue eyes. He still looks good though.

Unfortunately, I could only find the watermarked one online. I don't know how to upload it from my pc.
