It is an annoying trend I have noticed, but Google is a terrible search engine when you search for books (especially technical books) that are in free access. So many a time have I tried to find a good book I know for a fact is in open access, only for it to give me links to amazon and other platforms where they sell those books. Sometimes they even delete the links where those books are provided for free.

I have nothing to add however Google is better at searching for subreddits than reddit itself.

It's also great for finding aggregators, scroll all the way down and read the DMCA notices and you find the main site name.

it has to do with who pays the cash to keep them running, why do you think you can search for something like say the 90's band barenaked Ladies and get nothing but porn for 5+ pages

Google experience is low in general for a while now. Propaganda and paid content is high on their priority list

I have a website where you can dl Epubs of many kinds of books I haven't had any problem getting books from them so far. they do have a DL limit of 5 books a day.
we aren't allowed to post link to aggregators here. I don't know if it is also forbidden to pm them.

I used this site when I was in Uni I saved about 3k in books every year. I used my tablet if I had assignments I needed to turn in I would just print them in the school library I didn't want to use my ink at home. XD

My most expensive books were around $250-$300 this was my freshmen year and I was flirting with a girl in line and she told me her book was $400.

You can use google operators to find the books you are looking for. For example, if you search as below,

    Code:
    "book name" filetype:pdf
It searches in PDF files. Maybe you can find the pdf share of the book you are looking for.

Try with google scholar? Or something similar for books?

Also, there are better online "libraries" with gigantic catalogues and good search functions.

I still cannot for the life of me figure out how to search a specific subreddit using new reddit. The prominent """search""" bar on top for some reason always searches all of reddit and does a shit job even at that.

Also look for the file suffix "epub" since there are some aggregator sites using that.

If you're looking for Out Of Print books, the internet archive library has a number of those available in a library format. How they got around copyright is somewhat similar to how public libraries loan out copies. You borrow a book from the internet library and then flip book pages! So far, this method has avoided copyright lawsuit due to the similarity of flipping pages of a real book. It seems far-fetched, but some commercial publishing companies have tried to get laws changed during President Clinton's tenure to force libraries to charge a fee for each book and that fee is then remitted back to the original publisher as their "rightful profit". That failed, but who knows if such an attempt will be tried again in the future.

    Internet Archive Library:
    https://archive.org/

Example on "borrowing a book from the Internet Library":
    1. Type "saberhagen" in the search box
    2. Click on "The Third Book of Swords"
    3. At the top, click on "Borrow" to borrow the book for an hour or multiple days. Sign up for a free borrower account (just like your public library) to borrow a book.
    4. Click on the book's page edges to flip the book pages.
    5. Return the book when done rather than waiting for expiration. While you have the book checked out, just like at a public library, no one else can read it since you have the book in hand.

Don't forget to look for the Harry Potter poster book and click your way to pictures of Diagon Alley! You know you want to visit there! Meow!
