Middle East is kind of broad, Israel and Saudi Arabia are both in it. There's definitely countries where you would be on hard mode from the start though, but not every one.
"Pick up" is ambiguous. Who defines it other than yourself? Even then it's based on the society you live in and circumstance. Not to mention it relies on both parties' expectations and understanding of the situation. If you were in medieval times, or even in certain existing cultures, touching a woman's hand would "pick" her up as you'd be expected to marry her. So, in that society that you'd find yourself with a system of, you would need to tailor your methods to engineer a situation in which you'd gain an encounter to succeed without imprisonment or death.
