For me, it was from I Am A Baller. The first lines of the novel started off along the lines of "The world is a wh*re who only pleasures those who can afford it." (Lol idk if I can say wh*re so I'll play it safe for now). As a person who grew up poor, and is currently swimming in poor, I kind of (very much) agree with this. I read it like 2 years ago, but I still remember this because it really hit hard.
I can't remember any at the moment but this is a recent one I shared with my siblings from an ABO novel where differentiation basically refers to the process of being divided into secondary genders I.e Alpha, Beta and Omega. "Our life brings all kinds of colors because of differentiation... What human beings can do is to accept, accommodate, understand, and endure."
There was a line about a city being a dyeing tank, no matter how white, you going to come out colorful. I felt it was an interesting metaphor
"The soul is born, he said vaguely, first in those moments I told you of. It has a slow and dark birth, more mysterious than the birth of the body. When the soul of a man is born in this country there are nets flung at it to hold it back from flight. You talk to me of nationality, language, religion. I shall try to fly by those nets."
“When you have eliminated all which is impossible, then whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth.” ~ Sir Arthur Conan Doyle "Until they become conscious they will never rebel, and until after they have rebelled they cannot become conscious." "Who controls the past controls the future. Who controls the present controls the past." "Big Brother is always watching" ~1984 George Orwell
"If a child is treated too strictly they lose the fun in their childhood." "An eye for an eye, now everyone's blind" both are from Chinese e-novels, they can be stupidly funny but Chinese webnovels have a lot of deep quotations I can't help but think over even if they're just skimmed over the next second.
I don't know about the first one but I know the second one dates back to 1947 in Louis Fischer's book “Gandhi and Stalin” where he explains Gandhi's approach to conflict resolution, but he did never attribute the words to Gandhi like most people believe.
“I wanted to explain that I am constantly overestimating and underestimating the human race - that rarely do I even simply estimate it. I wanted to ask her how the same thing could be so ugly and so glorious, and its words and stories so damning and brilliant...I AM HAUNTED BY HUMANS.” ― Markus Zusak, The Book Thief One more- " “I have hated words and I have loved them, and I hope I have made them right.”
"We should all just sleep till we die." - Legend of Concubine's Daughter Minglan I can't help but to think back to this quote when life isn't great.
https://www.wuxiaworld.com/novel/nine-star-hegemon/nshba-chapter-227 "Talent is just a fart. Maybe if you release it you might shock people with the noise, and smoke people out, but if you can’t release it, who knows what crap you’re holding in?”
Stories of imagination tend to upset those without one. It’s still magic even if you know how it’s done. There are times in life when people must know when not to let go. Balloons are designed to teach small children this. Various books of Terry Pratchett.
(I remember the bold letters) "What uneasiness lies in being loved." "Scoundrels [...] simply don't die. The ones who die are always the gentle, sweet, and beautiful people. [...] Scoundrels live a long time. The beautiful die young." "Then what's a synonym for woman?" "Entrails." "You're not very poetic, are you? Well, then, what's the antonym for entrails?" "Milk." (Never fails to me make me laugh lmao) "I thought, “I want to die. I want to die more than ever before. There’s no chance now of a recovery. No matter what sort of thing I do, no matter what I do, it’s sure to be a failure, just a final coating applied to my shame. That dream of going on bicycles to see a waterfall framed in summer leaves—it was not for the likes of me. All that can happen now is that one foul, humiliating sin will be piled on another, and my sufferings will become only the more acute. I want to die. I must die. Living itself is the source of sin." "I have always shook with fright before human beings. Unable as I was to feel the least particle of confidence in my ability to speak and act like a human being, I kept my solitary agonies locked in my breast. I kept my melancholy and my agitation hidden, careful lest any trace should be left exposed. I feigned an innocent optimism; I gradually perfected myself in the role of the farcical eccentric." " 'Society? Don't you mean yourself?' [...] What is society but an individual? [...] The ocean is not society; it is individuals. This was how I managed to gain a modicum of freedom from my terror at the illusion of the ocean called the world." "As long as I can make them laugh, it doesn’t matter how, I’ll be alright. If I succeed in that, the human beings probably won’t mind it too much if I remain outside their lives. The one thing I must avoid is becoming offensive in their eyes: I shall be nothing, the wind, the sky. ....hmm, suddenly I'm forgetting the quotes i always remember lolol
