How would you reach nirvana? If it were offered to you, would you accept it?

    From wikipedia:

A state of perfect quietude, freedom, highest happiness as well as the liberation from attachment and worldly suffering.

To achieve this status, one has to get rid of three psychological evils – Raga (greed, desire), Dwesha (anger) and Moha (delusion).

My assumption is that most people wouldn't have the first clue as to how to reach nirvana, as people generally don't want that sort of thing. Yes, people want to be happy, but it's more in the moment happiness than internal/eternal happiness, for you see dear friends, true happiness to most people lies in suffering and struggling, for if everything was at an end, at peace, then things would become extremely boring. People could buckle down and achieve all their dreams within a matter of months, but what's the fun in that? The idea of failure is what gives success its value, is it not?

If anything, is is quite insane to wish for a perfect state, and much more logical to wallow in one's struggle than to detach yourself from yourself and solve the problem quickly. Yes yes, emotions are nice and make people feel alive, to empty ourselves would be sheer madness.

The idea behind nirvana is that long-term happiness can only be obtained if you get rid of the roots of suffering, and it's the same for reaching Christian Heaven (think seven deadly sins). It's also a fact that you're not supposed to reach a perfect state in your lifetime. Mostly you only end up in heaven or nirvana after death. Not having a body makes it easier to give up on those last lingering regrets if you were close enough, and if you weren't close enough there's probably a hell or reincarnation waiting for you.

The main goal is to just get closer than you were before.

That only lasts for a little bit though. Sadly it looks like you might have to do it multiple times until you bleed.

By giving up your self and letting yourself get subsumed into the immanent consciousness, thereby becoming a happy, unthinking cog in an opaque, omnipotent system. :blobhero:

How would getting rid of desires and delusions leave me happy?

Fuck, if I was constantly exposed to truths of everything, now that would be miserable.

Everyone experiences at least some "real" happiness in good dreams every so often anyway.

If you are talking consciously, well, I did experience moments where I didn't give a shit about problems because I did enough to push them away for a while and just bask in doing what I love (reading stupid funny shit online) thus experiencing true happiness by getting rid of suffering and getting closer to joy.

It's fleeting, but its real happiness. If you or the wiki or Buddha say it isn't, well then damn, did you really ever experience real happiness?

Edit- I also don't trust a high as fuck look Buddha's depictions tend to have. Suspicious.

That's not in the bible. The whole selling point about Christianity is that you don't need any form of enlightenment to reach heaven, you just need blind faith in Jesus. Meanwhile, Buddhism requires self enlightenment.

Uh, didn't you know that people get judged before reaching heaven? Faith isn't about saying you believe, you have to follow the precepts of the religion to qualify. Sure, people can be forgiven for sins, but only if they're sincere about following the right path from then on... If they lie just to get out of going to hell, chances are they'll still end up in hell.

Detachment without thought is worse than being muddled in emotions.

Nirvana is when your mind can be still as a millennium lake yet still love, fight, cry and laugh whenever it's needed.

    Know when action is needed,
    Know when to stop overthinking
    Know when enough is enough.

Anything more than that, and you be goin in hoopie loopie land of

I don't think it would be even possible for someone to offer Nirvana... It's not something offered, it's something attained. I wouldn't accept someone offering me Nirvana because the very premise is flawed, therefore I'd assume the person offering it is just trying to scam me~

No, I didn't. I am still alive and kicking, so I wouldn't know anything about that. Since you know everything about it, I guess you were rejected from heaven?

??? Like I said, blind faith, of course it would include doing as you're told. When did I say you just need to believe?

I'd never go for nirvana. I like being greedy and wanting more.
