Haha ml.and mc growing up together is most preferable. As, if ml is raised by mc, then usually mc is dense enough not to find out ml's hidden affection and ml generally turn out yandere or.are of deep mind and can act out the image as the mc generally likes. And if it's opposite, ml is generally cold aloof but only warms up in presence of mc. And mc is typical youthful sunshine boy who goes around clinging to ml and is dependent on ml and many a times follows the same path as that of ml. Not that it is annoying but yeah both being of same age and growing up together is nice.
