2022 NUF FM Awards - Introduction & Discussion Thread​

NUF FM History​

In the primordial era of NUF - before the emergence of some of our most well-known and beloved games; Blackjack casino, the Piñata game, the Kingdom Royale series, the Adventurer’s Guild, the Spy in the Council series, and 21 Dares game - the Community Games subforum was barren save for a few roleplaying and mini-game threads. But one day, out of the chaos and mundanity, a brave pioneer rose up and brought Mafia to our humble abyss.

@yuzuki hosted the very first Mafia game in NUF on April 27, 2016, titled “There’s a Yandere in My Class!”. In this game, 3 yanderes (Mafia) won against 15 students (Town) by virtue of keeping a low profile while the inexperienced Town decimated itself. This game was then followed by the bigger rolemadness game, titled “When The Occult Club Plays With Summoning Magic” in May 2016, with 22 players and a neutral faction.

Bolstered by the warm reception for these two games, @A5G_Reaper took the design from her time at the DOTA 2 Forums and launched the DotA Lynch Game series a few months later. Following this, NUF’s supreme creator @Tony used the DLG series as a template to create the automated DotA Mafia Games, which attracted more players with the tempting prize of 1,000 nuffies for the winning faction of each game.

On April 10, 2017, NUF received an invitation to the Season 4 Mafia Championship and sent off @Zone Q11 as our first tribute sacrifice representative. Our next champions in the following years were: @Zone Q11 * (2018), @Fossil * (2019), @Zone Q11 * (2020), @LiLi041 * (2021) and most recently, @Tilgarial * (2022).

From 2016 to early 2018, all games were hosted by Reaper (DLG) and @justabot (bot DMG), but Manual games hosted by users soon became popular with the arrival of @Rotte and @bbninjas in Sep 2018. Players came up with their own set-ups and flavours which gave us games like Undertale FM, Mafia Academy Mode, Halloween Special FM and Happy Fun Ride FM.

In the 6+ years since the birth of NUF FM, around 287 nuffians played 23 DotA Lynch Games, 27 bot DotA Mafia Games, and 46+ Manual/non-DotA games.

Why we’ve decided to host awards​

The NUF FM Awards wasn’t just something we decided to do on the spur of the moment; the organizers have been planning (and procrastinating) on the idea for over a year. Each award, the nomination process, and the voting system have been carefully thought out to hopefully ensure that it will be easy for everyone to use while remaining transparent and fair. We decided to host the NUF FM Awards not only to recognize the outstanding (and not-so-outstanding) achievements of NUF’s FM community, but also to look back at how far we’ve come and generate excitement and expectation for the future.
