I am not a fan of bad endings in general but i really dislike it when a character sacrifices themselves for the greater good. I always feel a certain regret for the characters, hoping they had a better ending. Hoping they live the life they wanted. AAAAAAHHHHHHH

self sacrificing mc only works for me when I know that mc knows he is strong enough or has a way to avoid death, so only the people around mc are going crazy over mc's behaviour.
    just like my custom title:blobpeek:

haven't seen the ending of ORV but I feel like dokja is not really sacrificing himself and others simply misunderstand it. I hate ones where character dies or be forgotten by everyone or just be a sacrificial lamb because he or she is too altruistic.

You can try "Let me shoulder this blame" It's BL and the MC's job is do precisely what you've told but always fails.

I only like it if the MC dies on their own terms.

I don't have a problem with the trope itself, although it heavily depends on the story making me care enough about it up to that point.

I think it's all about execution to me... I don't mind bittersweet endings, but they have to be well-executed... Self-sacrifice in the end can work out, but make sure to pull enough of my heartstrings to make me like it~

If it doesn't feel properly sorrowful while also being a good ending, then I'll get bothered.

I mostly care about the results of said Self- Sacrificing in which it actually works for good to accomplish something. Like does it really succeed and if so does it benefited those you made the sacrifice for? If not isn't it just pointless then.

I hate selfish character because I have read too much of them. So a self sacrificing character would be good who is willing to sacrifice his own for greater good. But we'll I think that's rare as hell. And I tbh hate perfect happy ending where protagonist doesn't really face any permanent loss.

    Solo-Leveling.
Solo-Leveling ending. It ended so unsatisfactorily that I just dropped the manhwa. Everyone just forgot about him and it pissed me off to no end. I didn't even bother to read the other extras at the end of the novel. I was so mad at the author lol.

Dude, I know this feeling. I picked up a series to read and was devastated when I reached the end. I didn't know it was a tragedy and I bawled at the end.

It is a romance, bl, fantasy.
The protagonist let himself be killed by the main lead. The main lead regret the decision, and used his powers to bring the protagonist back to life. but the protagonist lived through so much pain and decided he would only be brought back to life if god erased all his 'emotions and feelings.' So in the end the main lead could only live with an empty shell of a human being.

it's just really sad and heart breaking. I still feel sad to this day..... ugh but the story was really good. 'Only your death.'
I don't know why I didn't know it was a tragedy from reading the title =_= ugh.

urkkk I hate it when it's someone I love and rly want to see just retire and live a ridiculously sweet and happy retirement life
If they die it's like, suffering, torment, despair, fatigue and finally death
    THAT'S TOO PITIFUL! my babies!

I think that the self-sacrificing character is great, but only when it feels real. When a character makes a momentous decision that's strongly based on his personality and on the events that have built up in the story, it just adds so much to engaging the audience, and really it's why I read books to begin with. Do note though that I never self insert into the protagonist. As a result, I'm always more invested in the overall story than in the fate of the protagonist.

It can be irritating when author-san made me like the characters so much only to kill them off in the end sigh.

Subaru = Did you just summon me?
Kim Dokja = I don't do something stupid like that if I have other alternatives.
Harold = I hope all of you trash aren't talking about me?
Origa = I'm okay with sacrificing myself as long as Onii-sama is happy.
