I used to enjoy romance/hero and not hate harem novels, now I try to read villain/kingdom building/dungeon novels and hate harems and dislike romance novels

I was heavily into dark, gory and grim novel especially ones with an evil protagonist. I used to not care about anything else as long as the protagonist is evil and it's not harem. But nowadays they make me cringe. I can't touch them anymore. Nowadays I like light-hearted comedy novels which have funny protagonist :blobrofl:.

I went from cartoons/anime to manga to printed books to webtoons to webnovels/lightnovels/mtls.
From action to isekai/transmigration/reincarnation/etc. to romance(bg) to R18 to Villainess to everyday I only read BL.
Honestly, I read whatever I feel like reading at the moment. But my cup of tea would be always isekai in any form, villainess and BL.

the day i started eating novels, my taste bud started changing
    ( Jk lol )

it only evolve if you start from simp and move toward ruthless or rational
only when you start from something and reach a point where you enjoy those which contrast the beginning
example- starting from romance and reading no romance
starting from kind and reading evil

otherwise, you won't see any evolution
if you were reading simp and cliche novel earlier and after 5 yr you are still there
then you have not grown ig

well that's all my stupid brain can think in this stupid free time ( ignore me ) i am very bored ig.

I went from western books to JP because I got sick of certain common tropes/cliches. Then JP to KR because I also got sick of common tropes/cliches. Now I've moved from KR to CN and I don't know what to do if I get tired of CN novels too. Maybe go back to gaming.

    Anime -- Manga -- Wattpad -- Ao3 -- Webtoon/Manhwa -- Manhua -- WebNovels (Korean -- Japanese -- Chinese)

I started with Anime when the internet wasn't a thing in our country, the only way to watch anime was through TV or by buying CDs that are pirated which there aren't many genres to choose from so I kinda watch a lot of genres. Through that I discovered Yaoi and that change my life for better or for worse. After exhausting my love for Anime, I moved to Manga, mainly focused on Yaoi stuff, and became a full pledge rotten sister/fujoshi.

Then I get tired of Anime and Manga in general and got into novels like Harry Potter and American shows like Hannibal which started my fanfic journey. I've read tons of fanfic about them (mostly BL/ Male to male). I started reading on Wattpad (but you know the quality there is meh) so I started searching and discovered fanfic sites like Ao3. I also discovered doujinshi, which I think is Fanfiction but in manga form.

But I get tired of it again so I moved to the Otaku world again but this time Webtoon is a new thing I discovered so I explored it and mainly read romance and normal stuff. But then I stumbled upon "Solo Leveling". It's my first time having to experience the adrenaline of watching your protag being so f-ing cool and smashing all the enemies. I mean, I watched anime that are OP and stuff like that but its different when I've read Solo Leveling, maybe because it's a manhwa and the art style is so badass. Anyway, I started loving manhwa since then and I tend to search for OP characters, and delve into isekai both shounen and shoujo.

After having no more manhwa to read I got into manhua (Chinese manga) and at first I kinda hate it? It's really hard to adjust at first because most manhua I read at the start didn't reach my standards having read lots of high-quality manhwas (Korean manga), but soon got used to it. I started to explore and found my first Quick Transmigration manhua.

I started delving into novels because of the manhwa I love so much "Trash of the Count's Family", I couldn't wait for the manhwa updates anymore so to know more about the story I search for the novel and the rest is history.

    My genre taste development journey:
    Shoujo(anime) -- Shounen(anime) --- Yaoi (anime) -- Fanfiction(M/M) --- Doujinshi (M/M) -- OP/Isekai (Manhwa&Manhua) -- OP,Adventure, Transmigration/Isekai, Rebirth (WebNovel) -- BL novels (Quick Transmigration/Transmigration/Rebirth -- Horror/Supernatural -- Historical -- Showbiz -- Business)

JP WN->CN WN Classics->KR WN->JP LNs and Royal Road stories.

CN and KR now feel too much like 'commercial writing' for me, there's very little who has that human touch aside from JP who almost always feels like the author is writing their own ways than trying to match to some kind of 'standard'.

Well, I started by reading local novels at first when I was young. I found them to be 'ticklish' back then, and after reading some, I realized they all mostly have the same pattern. After long skip, I got introduced to fanfic, and fortunately I only found a little cliche fanfic before I got into mindblowing ao3 bl fanfics. From there, I've developed expensive taste.
Next, I got known to webtoon, noticed most are cliche, so I stopped at first or in the middle. Then I found this site, found kkp, ridi, but yeah my taste has been fixed since my ao3 age. I do try read some bg, bl, but not much that I could enjoy. Most shounen or seinen would have harem, most bg/bg will have stupid mc and obsessive ml. And well, I got tired now. I prefer to read a good story which is really my cup of tea rather than feeling emotionally drained after bad reading.

I use to read Mangas –> then once I came across a Manhua, at that time I wasn't aware that it was a Chinese comic. I came to know later that it's called a Manhua, I wanted to know the story of that manhua further because the translation stopped or was it slow (?) I don't remember, but I read in the comment section that it has a novel –> the search for it introduced me to Novelupdates, it was a usual long CEO type novel and I obviously dropped it but I saw a recommendation of a K-Novel below.

And yes, right after that, I kept reading K-Novels. I also tried some other Light J-Novels in the meanwhile as well as good Chinese Novels including oneshots.
Although I mostly read K-Novels but I do switch my reading preferences once in a while for something more different.

Thanks to NU that I found gems like
    - My Husband with a scholar syndrome etc.

Lol I came from reading wattpad. *shudders intensely*. Be it greek gods, werewolves, vampires, mafia, ceo, bestfriend to boyfriends, fanfics. I've red them all, the list goes on. I really thought those were the best thing ever and I would spend the whole day reading books that doesn't even have a proper plot and filled with plot holes and cliched scenarios.

Now I still mostly read shoujo - josei novels but I'm proud to say that I'm now slightly picky and and wouldn't continue reading if the story makes my head hurt bcs of the incoherent plot.

Well my taste over the years hasn't been far apart than I thought it would be  it just changed culture

Well, I started off with romance BG with strong female leads and CEO stereotype MLs. But then, I went down the danmei/BL hole and never came out again. I also started with romance and fluff, I still liked them a lot. But I was introduced to new kinds of hell like horror instances, some were so gory and scary but I was like ( ̄. ̄) yeap, as someone who's a scaredy cat, that's a lot of improvement. Then I explored gaming genre, even full eroticas. Then got astrayed with mpregs and omegaverse. Interstellar and futuristic novels also caught my attention. Then I began to love mecha battles, gaming and even harem. So I can say that at this very moment, I don't choose genres and tags anymore. The one thing I don't like is tragic, bad endings.
