Hi everyone, I'd like to translate 发冠 into English. I think the term refers to the 'crown' men wore in ancient times to keep their hair up. But what's a good translation?

It does refer to the crown and hairpin set in general but can also mean hat. There's not really a good translation, crown or cap is probably the best translation in most cases. Seems like something you can footnote if necessary.

Thank you for your reply! The novel is set during the Han Dynasty, so the term could be either a crown and hairpin or a hat. Context wise, the character's hair can be seen, so I'll use the word crown for the sentence in question. The fact that the term can also be used for a hat, like an official's hat for example, is something I forgot tbh.
    Thanks for the reminder. :blobsmilehappyeyes:
