I am looking for an anime streaming service where I could potentially watch old and new anime and Crunchyroll comes to mind. I've been looking at their catalog and it's surprisingly dogshit. Like I'm constantly seeing anime released from over a decade ago lol. Maybe I didn't explore their app enough any users here? How is it? Would you recommend it?
Hajiko is correct, anime is licensed by territory. For example you are in Asia, the category might be slim/older since a lot of production committees sell those rights elsewhere. Really common to see the international rights being bundled as “world ex-Asia” these days
Tbh even though crunchyroll has rights of most anime, i'd rather watch elsewhere. Not that im telling you to pirate or anything. There are other legit sites.
if you have specific titles in mind, then you should check if they have it first, if any title does, search the cheaper service available to your country.
No, my sibling has it and not all the series are dubbed or subbed. One season will only be available in dubbed then the second only subbed. It was weird, getting used to the different voices. Also even with a VPN the selection wasn't what I expected. I wouldn't say it was worth it.
Some are available on YouTube. Sadly, the cost is prohibitive. You need to be on multiple platforms. I use to buy movies on Amazon years ago until the service was discontinued and they told me the movies I bought were actually a form of rental. That pissed me off. I don't buy digital content for that reason unless there is no DRM
It is... Okay? Like, the ads are horribly intrusive and ridiculously long, but an adblocker fixes that, so that's that. The sub quality tends to be pretty acceptable too. I only remember a handful of times where I noticed an issue with their subbing. I remember the videos stuttered regularly when I watched them on PC years back, but I tried watching on PC this year and had no problems. That said, it's horribly buggy at mobile, and sometimes it just refuses to continue loading the video, so you're forced to re-load the page, meaning you need to watch all ads again (my mobile browser had no ad-block, so... Welp). As for the anime catalogue... It's mostly fine from what I've seen. Since it's a free product, you can always check to see if the anime you want to see happens to be there... If it is, great, if it is not, you can always find it somewhere else. Overall, I'd say Crunchyroll is pretty okayish. By no means an excellent service, but it's usable.
Crunchy roll is the mainstream app so it’s obviously pretty good, not that there are a LOT of legit options.
Crunchyroll has its pros and cons and is best for new anime but has some older stuff. They also kinda have a monopoly on anime streaming in the USA, though elsewhere there can be other options. In terms of a more even spread, the next best alternative service that people tend to use nowadays is Hidive. But a big set of factors, and this can be pivotal in sub and streaming quality, are the device/region/internet from which you are watching it. If any of those isn't ideal, or the style of the subs isn't to your tastes, well, just politely ask Google for subs, making sure to be polite about it, and one of the better English subber sites may come up. A VPN is a good idea at that point, though.
