Or do you have genres you avoid? What about non-fiction, do you read them outside of what's required?

I almost always stay away from harem, I have almost never seen it done well, and never perfectly. I don't like sci-fi either. I don't read non-fiction

    -BL
-Tragedy (My standards are too high)
-Romance as "subplot" (its like a Virus which at first only is 1% of an arc and then every second chapter is just full of it)

BL. Don't think I've ever read past 20 chapters for a single BL novel/manga ever in all my years.
Harem. I try to stay away from it. Unless it's not a main portion of the plot. Or GL. But GL harem is fairly rare.
BG romance in general. I've read a lot actually but none were ever really that good. I only read it if their romancing is not the main plot.

Generally, I still prefer to read BG novels or non-romance stories with a great and interesting plot. But if I have to say what genre I always avoid then that would be GL and Tragedy.
Harem? I do watch harem anime before but not novels. I prefer a reverse harem with an apocalyptic and beast world theme.
Also, if the story is not good or suited to my liking then I usually ignored or stop reading it. It's impossible for me to read everything hehe

Life is too short to read everything. If it is a genre i dont like, i will read it only if it has very high ratings, the best of that genre

I suspect that anyone who says that they read everything either lying or just aren't introspective enough to realize what they're saying. It's not really possible to read everything, and if you really did read everything, you probably won't be wasting your time with webnovels.

Personally, I purposefully avoid quick transmigration novels because they are the antithesis of what I'm interested in, xianxia novels because they're intrinsically flawed, and BL novels because they're not going to have good female characters.

The genre I avoid is genderbend which is a tag I think
Sometimes I might read non-fiction but only if it really interests me

I don't read harem genre ,it just pisses me off. I also tend to avoid tragedy as i get too emotional while reading and cry too much . QT is also a no go for me as i like to immerse in a single world and follow a single storyline. Too many stories makes them feel rushed to me.
I read non fiction ,mainly biographies .

I avoid ones that don't have other sidekick or friend male characters in the MC's group.

I have limited time in my life to read, so I naturally prefer reading stuff of my favorite genres.

Why would I read stuff of genres I'm not that fond of when I can read stuff of genres I do like? My time is limited and there are basically infinite novels I can read of the genres I like, so like... No point in reading the stuff that I'm not super fond of.

I can't bring myself to read non-fiction. I may watch documentaries occasionally, regardless of the topic. Non-fiction like autobiographies, self-help, motivational, philosophy, theological, and similar books are just too cringey to me. I have no interest in biographies. And I have some interest in history, geography, and astronomy, but I'd still rather watch a docu about it.

As for fiction genres, it depends on my mood and what wave I'm riding right now. As a kid, I loved court dramas, action and adventure, and I read fairtytales. Then teen romcoms (TV), children's books and romance classics as a teen, crime drama and psychological thrillers (TV) and fantasy (books) in my early 20s. And now I'm firmly into fantasy and sci-fi. And I've always been fascinated by horror, but only on TV. Can't feel it in books. The only genre I refuse to ever read or watch is tragedy. And a genre I avoid is pure drama, too boring. And another one I wouldn't read if I have any other options is slice of life. I hate books where nothing happens.

I am open to all genres except ecchi, harem, mecha, and sports. The reasons why?
    1. Ecchi- gross
    2. Harem- demeaning to the members
    3. Mecha- not my thing
    4. Sports- definitely not something I enjoy

As long as the review is good, I can give a try and read it even when it's not my usual taste.

Harem,Smut, Yaoi, Yuri and I'm currently avoiding any and all Xianxia novels for I have read just too much of them.
