Yep, some of my Japanese friends read Chinese novel too.
Some of their favorite is Cultivation Chat Group, Release that WItch, 48 Hours a Day, Lord of the Mysteries, and the other.

My friends usually evade all novel that have racist and nationalism tag though. :blobpopcorn:

Yep, some of the girls like BL,

For example, I remember that one time when we gather together after comicket events and these girls suggest watching Mo Dao Zu Shi in the living room.

Not to mention the sheer amount of BL doujins they bought, can even last for months. So yep, Danmei stuff is everyday stuff for them.

I wonder if the reverse is true. Does chinese read japanse novels/manga/anime...well some probably do, but is there a stigma or is it generally seen as something bad?

Hmm, according to my friends these are interesting and cool. I mean who won't think elegant cultivator as cool? Even so, some thought it's too bloody though especially when MC decide to massacre the whole family.

Thankfully not all Cultivation MC are crazy for massacre. .

Nah, I don't think they would even tried to japanifying these concept. It's like, you want to read it but you don't want to live in these world kind of moments I guess.

Not to mention Cultivation type genre seems to be a lost cause nowadays. Good cultivation stories seems to disappear replaced by second rated system novel. Of course not all of them are bad, but most of them are.

These are my opinion anyway. if someone decide to recreate japan MC in cultivation world then it;s up to them xD (I believe there's one in scribblehub, cultivation novel with kind MC (not JP MC though xD))

If you consider it that way then there's already lots of cultivation related novel in japan then.
I mean cultivation in Japan always got equivalent as Ninja for some reason and ninja theirselves cultivate with chakra with line similar to cultivator *cough* Naruto *cough* remember that snake who want to pursue immortality or that immortal woman in the series. Yep, that's them.

Still, there aren't many japanese novel with MC tried to find immortality, I think there's more who tried to get rid of their immortality rather than finding it XD.

Uh, cultivation exists in Japan as well. It's called Shugendō. Remember Asakura Yoh's dad? Yeah, he's an ascetic.

    Edit: there's also the Onmyoji.

Hm, Shugendo aren't pursuing immortality though, more like trying to get supernatural power by becoming one with nature if I'm not wrong.
Conclusion is, self-cultivation or mind-cultivation exist in Japan. After all, some Japanese MC love to meditate too.

Considering the amount of references they make to Japanese media in their own works and the number of Chinese translations of Japanese manga that can be found by the curious seeker, I would say they are the weebiest weebs out there. :blobpeek:
