With WW change in policy, it made me wonder how many people spend money for advance webnovel chapters or donate to the translator/translation team.

I only buy books. Besides that, I just read what I can get my hands on.

I'm an author on WN. I have readers who pay for privileged chapters and even give me extra gifts. I'm a small name tho

I'm curious about the extra gifts. Anyone ever gave you a gift besides money?

tbh I don't pay. I think its really expensive (at least for my country/economy) and paying for 1~2 advanced chapters is not encouraging enough for a single novel. I understand that some translator have few guys that would pay, so 5$ dol, for example, would be the minimal, but I'm reading 5~10 different novels per day and getting a single chapter in advance is so meh. Furthermore, to be worth I think I would have to spend hundreds of dollars, which is waaaaay too much for a set of books. Each book of ISSTH nowadays is 5$ dol, that would be 50$ dol for the entire novel, while some translator get that in a month from a SINGLE guy, a very profitable job if you have a certain fame and choose the right book to translate.

Not really, I don't read enough to make it worthwhile to spend my money reading.

I'd rather spend that money on other hobbies, like gaming and stuff~

... Though well, almost all my money goes away to pay bills... >.>

Yah, I find it a bit expensive too. Especially since 1 or 2 chapters aren't substantial enough to make a great difference for an ongoing novel.

WN has a gift system, usually, I only get Cola that costs 10 coins or Piza that costs 50 coins. The highest one is Luxury Car costs 1000 coins but, the top authors receive Castle (5k coins) and Spacecraft (10k coins) from their readers. I think the coins go 50:50 for WN and the author. There's also the Summoning Pens feature that readers give if they want bonus chapters. It's not compulsory to release them tho. I get them but to not lose out on my drafts quickly, I'll wait until I get 50 pens at least before I release one.

I rarely give gifts because even 1 USD cost 4 to 5 times my currency.

I pay for book that worth every penny, and of course to support the author so the author can create more quality works!

I'm the motherfucking leech in this economy.

    I pirate.

It hurts my brain, but I rather die from MTL and shitty translation than to fork out money.

Though to be honest, I did bought some translated LNs (and mangas) before from official translation, I stopped doing that knowing my habits to throw the books into cold storage after just finishing them once.

Second reason as to never spend money on WW: I don't feel that they are official enough. As in, even though their work is legit and clean (maybe) similar to Baka Tsuki, I will never buy from them because of the mental block that they are not official enough to churn out digital document.

I pay if I find that the cost is worth it
my definition of "worth it" is if <$10 can buy a long time of reading because I never touch most stories after reading through once

    Printed official novel, yes.
From official translator/website? yes. Not much, but yes.
From some random translation? no. The one place I will probably donate to is probably baka-tsuki.

CHN novel is way too long for me to spend money on them, but if there's an official ebook for kr or jpn title i will probably get them.

Yeah, I pretty freely spend money on these things if they're interesting me, whether it's an ebook, WuxiaWorld's sponsored chapters or some random translator's Ko-Fi

I used to pay for novels on WN. However then they dropped one to many of the books I was paying to read. So screw them. At least WW finishes their books.

Before yes, but I still prefer paperbacks so I find it wasting money on something I will not read again so I stopped.

I donate occasionally, mainly to smaller translators, but I hate advance chapter setups so I avoid them like the plague. You're essentially paying for a bonus once and then forced to keep paying to avoid the punishment of having to stop reading for a few weeks or even months.

No. But if there's a hard copy I will...you know even if you can buy the soft copy it's just like nothing while buying the hard copy one you can feel it cuz you can touch it and bring with you whenever can share with your friends...I think I'm more in traditional one...but soft copy...if there's a pirate of it I'll not spend for it..xD
