What is the most miserable main character you've ever read? Whether it's a manhwa, manhua, manga, or novel. Who suffered so much, that even you couldn't bear to read it without feeling something for the MC?
Another way to look at the prompt by following the wording but not the spirit... There was that Chinese story about a gamer MC that played a guardian class that was such a schmuck that he was making up his exploits and deliberately dumbing down his foreign opponents just so that he could pretend that he's first. You could feel your neurons dying when you read about his supposed exploits while thinking on the side about how, if it was the real world, he'd be the perfect stepping stone.

Please save my Earth (Manga) - Both main characters are miserable in their past life but if I have to choose which one of the two is the most miserable then I would say the male lead. He had suffered too much since he was a child until he died. Imagine you're the last person who died on your team and live alone on the moon base. Even though he wants to die and follow her, he can't because the person he loves (fmc) once said to him before that the people who commit suicide will not reincarnate. Potatoes Are the Only Thing That’s Needed in This World! Horrible slapstick comedy, sad past of MC, no one getting what they deserve. Frustrating read. I'm all for evil characters, but annoying ones scar my soul.
Kuro no Maou. The author really liked to torture the MC. Dumped that steaming pile of sh*t on the chapter where one of the Apostles just tortures and kills all the people the MC was protecting its retreat.
1) The main heroines are trying to kill me 2) Authors pov , the beginning is fine but as you go further the mc's sufferings keep increasing. 3) My death flag shows no sign of ending, mc is so damn selfless, hes hated by everyone even though every thing he does is for their benefit
I'd choose a novel from a US writer namely Acheron by Sherrilyn Kenyon. It's a romance novel with more than 700 pages and half the book describes the things Acheron went through in his life. Sherrilyn Kenyon likes to put all of her MC's through a lot of shit btw. The male leads in her league novels also go through a lot.
Hm I would say either Su Ming or Guts... Su Ming: living most of his life not knowing what's real and what's not while losing most of the ppl he loved, sad af. Guts: Not the best childhood I would say, and when he find a place to call home, one of the person he loved the most took it away all from him in the most cruelty way...
My fiancé is in love with my younger sister . imo what makes this so sad is how she breaks more and more after each "death" and is revealed sad truths one after another, her hopeless struggle, but still unable to actually mourn and hate those around her, the only target of her disdain is herself.
Phosphophyllite from Land of the Lustrous/Houseki no Kuni He just wants to be useful and have a sense of belonging to the group that by doing so he lost his sense of self bit by bit in the process to the point of unrecognition. This manga is a peoticaly beautiful storywise and artisticaly and emotionally damaging.

Just let her rest and give her happy ending please Strategy to Capture Men I feel emotionally drained for mc. I totaly understand why she become numb at the end of the novel. This is a twisted and unusual quict transmigration story imo
