I'm not sure what this actually means. Is the company in trouble? Are they contracting an outside source for security? Is there something else going on?
There are no answers to be had.

What I can say, is that it's recommended that, if you have a Patreon account, make sure the password is different from any other account. Make sure any items you have hosted on the site are backed up in some way. And if you have saved financial information, like a credit card on record, consider removing it or switching over to Paypal.

um... wow.... that's like declaring open season for hackers. wonder who'll be the first to take a crack: general miscreants, financial criminals or perhaps someone displeased with Patreon's censorship efforts over the years...

    Hi All,

I'm the guy who wrote the article linked above. Just wanted to give you a heads up that Patreon reached out to us after we published the article to say they are relying on partnerships with external organizations for their security.

Only time will tell if this is sufficient, but they did want to reassure the community that they will continue to provide 'a secure and safe platform for creators and patrons.'

The article has been updated to include their full statement.

    Cheers!

Thanks for the heads up. I changed my password, enabled the two-factor authentication and then for just in case I removed my debit card.

The first two might've been enough but I want to take zero chances.

All you have to do is open an E-bank instead of paying with your regular bank cards the E-banks are free to open an account and you can transfer the amount of money you want so that you can use it to pay for online goods and some of them come with an app that will notify and ask if you made the payment before actually making the transaction.

Great for buying things online and anyone who want to make a payment with it would not be able to do it unless they can steal your phone's E-banking account and pass them selves off as you.

I could do something like that but then that's just one more step and I'm not sure if I'd be able to go inside a building if something happened with the E-Banking account.

Sure, I could do it online but I guess the thought of being able to go in person to talk face to face with a real person about my bank account issues just.. makes it feel more secure to me.

that is why you only use it to purchase minor things online and buy things that aren't too important with it and leave your important bank cards for major purchases for important stuff.

Is it strange that he traced the link to this forum and thread and created a account to comment on this obscure post in about 30 minutes after it was posted

It's not terribly strange, if the article suddenly got a boost in viewership and all the viewers came from the same site (NUF).
And the original article that I shared has been updated with more details that are in line with the statement posted here.
