I am not sure where people read the MC being happy she got flogged? Rather, she insisted on being the victim of it because she didn't want her coworker taking the punishment. The MC is still very disconnected with her current life because she accepted playing the role in exchange for her sister's recovery. Once she saw that her sister was able to recover, got married, and had a family, she was relieved and settled on living day by day. Her long term goal was finished so she's coasting by. It's everyone else's problem that they don't understand the MC's wants for a normal life as they continue pressing upon expectations. She just goes with it because she hasn't made the connection of her living in this world so she isn't sure what to do.

Yall need to chill lol but I will say that with stories like these, it's easy for things to get dragged out so I'll just keep an eye on it until it gets to that point.

    Series discussion

With the recent notif from this thread and me finding out an update exists, I'm just curious what happens post ch.4 of the manga? What happened to Lady Milly? Fitting end for a true villainess ending? I know MCs status got reinstated and she has a HE with Wolf but was that God's end goal and why he wanted her to stay? To get used to and accept the new world and live her new life or something?

I figure I should give a summary of what's been released so far manga-wise (up to chapter 9). First, for those wondering about the commoner turned new princess, Dorothy:

Dorothy is a total sweetie pie (SP). She's not really prepared to be the crown princess, but neither is her head completely empty. She was able to figure out that FL wasn't actually a bad person as FL always looked so sad when she bullied SP. She's shown to be so nice of a person that when she confirms that FL is actually nice, SP offers to restore FL to her proper place - including the engagement.

FL was reincarnated because she has a purifying soul. A long time ago the world was watched over by a goddess who decided to bestow a blessing on a young woman who asked the heavens to help her people. However the people were super ignorant and were afraid of the young woman's new appearance and abilities (her hair turned white, not sure of the abilities), so they killed her. Due to the pain and fear, the young woman's soul blackened and the blessing turned into a curse that could destroy the world. Because of this, the goddess decided to merge with the young woman's soul and work on purifying it. This ended in failure, as the blackness was so great that it overwhelmed the goddess and they both blackened. The goddess/YW's soul was then reincarnated again and again in an attempt to purify it.

One of the goddess's friends was given control of the world in the interim. He found that if he kept a purifying soul and a healing soul around the blackened soul, that it would speed up the purification process. This was absolutely necessary as he had limited control over the world and because the quality of life would greatly impact how much (if at all) the soul was purified during that lifetime. It ends up that there were no purifying souls in this world (not sure if they ran out or if there weren't any to begin with), so he brought one over from FL's world: her. The CP is the healing soul, so the god's goal was to have SP marry CP so he could heal her soul, while the FL's purifying soul would work it's magic on her. This looks to have done the trick as the purification is completed and the god was able to take the goddess's soul back with him, so that SP could live a life as just herself.

So far it's not clarified what, if any, powers that the young woman received as part of the blessing. Or that if she did, if SP has any of these powers.

FL was brought to this world because her sister was destined to die. The world's god offers to save her if FL reincarnates into his world, which FL eagerly accepts. The manga picks up just as FL has accomplished her task, but instead of being banished she's made into a castle maid. FL kind of just shrugs and accepts it. She's actually a bit happy when she discovers that the commoners all get Japanese meals.

FL becomes fast friends with her roommate, who is one of the few people who think she's really changed. The ML is a knight who is surprised when he sees that she acts much differently than how she did previously. However he is really only convinced after he learns that FL willingly took on corporal punishment for the roommate, going so far as to give her some healing salve for her wounds. The following day the person who beat FL is sent to work at an awful estate by the queen. She also asks that FL become the new crown princess's (SP) personal maid. FL agrees, especially as SP is shown to be a really nice person. Not only did SP pick up on the fact that FL didn't enjoy bullying her, but she also offered to restore FL's position and the engagement. FL of course refuses.

The next day FL helps SP prepare for the engagement ball. She also helps deal with a former adversary (AD) who wanted to have the CP all for herself. FL wonders why it was necessary for her to reincarnate in the world. She also has a discussion with the ML, who says she feels like an empty doll. FL thinks to herself that it feels accurate and a voice asks her if that's why she can't fully accept her new life. Following day, FL has a day off and goes to the city, where a bishie saves her from near kidnapping before disappearing. ML appears and the two have a nice meal together at a commoner's restaurant. The would be kidnapper appears and the ML goes to chase him. AD appears and asks FL to join forces to bully SP. FL refuses and grows angry when AD also chooses to insult the ML. When the ML appears AD tries to cozy up to him, but she's basically told to GTFO. ML and FL share a sweet moment where he thanks her for defending him and for how she handled the situation. He's definitely crushing on the FL now.

The next day the king and queen discuss AD's attempt to kidnap FL and the family's ties to the underworld. They assign more guards to SP, who is upset that they aren't going to do the same for FL. She insists that FL get guards, so the ML's commander rearranges the knights' patrols so she always has someone around her for the most part. They rationalize that this would make sense, as SP and CP's wedding is very soon. FL returns to her room, where she learns that roommate is sick. While handling her tasks, FL runs into a young prince (YP) who reminds her of her little sister. YP is super smitten with her, so he asks her to marry him. This is seen by ML, who wonders if FL prefers young boys (to him).

FL is then informed by a fairy that god wants to talk to her. It's her roommate, who is also the bishie who saved her. FL is finally told why she was reincarnated. Ends up that bishie isn't the original god of this world. It was originally a goddess who sacrificed herself after a blessing went awry. The recipient was a young woman whose fellow villagers killed her out of fear and ignorance, which blackened her soul. The souls of the young woman and the goddess became entwined, as the goddess was trying to purify the young woman's soul. Since then the soul was constantly reincarnated. Each time the god tried to ensure that the soul was around two other types of souls: one that could heal and one that could purify. The amount of healing/purification depended on the quality of the life, which he wasn't always able to control - especially as there weren't always people around who had healing or purifying souls. This was the case in this life, as there were no purifying souls.

FL is told that the tortured soul's current incarnation is SP and the healing soul is in CP, which is why they needed to be together. The world didn't possess a purifying soul, so he reincarnated one from another world: FL. He ensured that she reincarnated into the body of the villainess, so that she would be able to help steer SP and CP into each others' arms. Also, as the purification is now complete, he was able to extricate the goddess's soul from SP's. As a final reward he allows her to see her sister, who is now a grown, married woman with a child. This gives FL enough closure to accept her new life. ML is told the truth about her past and actions; he accepts her fully. Back at work, no one remembers roommate other than ML and FL. All is not completely well, however, as the queen is apparently scheming something.

The following day (or so) FL is teased about her relationship with ML. The knights were having a drinking game so she's sent to check on him. A very drunk ML tells her that he admires her a lot and falls on top of her. Next day, he doesn't remember anything, which makes FL a little upset. She then goes to wait on SP, who tells FL that her honeymoon will be in YP's country. The knights and all are discussing the honeymoon, as they expect that AD and her family will try to pull something. During the meeting CP learns that FL was bullied by AD, which surprises him. He talks to FL after the meeting and apologizes for not protecting her from AD. He asks if she bullied SP as a way of protecting her, but FL says no, that it was just a result of the give and take of the noblewoman's world. The interaction ends with CP thinking better of FL and that she's changed.

During the trip FL catches a cold and the ML nurses her back to health. The chapter ends on a cliffhanger, as it looks like the two are FINALLY going to admit their feelings to one another.

    Other questions people may have:
She didn't say anything because the FL begged her not to. SP wanted to restore FL to her position as a duke's daughter, even going so far as to offer to restore the engagement. Since she couldn't tell SP the truth, she fibbed that she did all of this so that she could be free of the responsibilities of being a duke's daughter - especially the engagement, as she didn't love CP (which is the truth).

SP is shown to be publicly (and privately) very happy that FL is her personal maid and that they're friends, so it's not like she's ever badmouthed her to anyone. I'd wager that SP has probably defended FL in private as well whenever she could. She seems like that type of character.

Someone else confirmed that ML is end game. From what I see of the final volume's synopsis, it looks like the remainder of the story focuses on ML's family life, which is hinted to be very complicated. His mother apparently doesn't like him and it seems like he's kind of the black sheep of the family. The synopsis for the final volume mentions that his father appears and tries to break up the relationship between FL and ML, so it looks like that cliffhanger does resolve into the two of them confessing their love for one another. It also looks like the father had no idea that ML existed, as he broke up with the mother before the pregnancy was discovered.

This last part is just pure speculation:
I personally wouldn't be surprised to discover that he was the brother of the YP, like a half or full brother. At one point in the manga, when ML comes across YP proposing, the YP looks towards ML and says something followed by "brother". FL assumes that he's referring to the guy behind ML, but perhaps it's actually ML? However if the dad had no idea that ML existed, it makes no sense that YP would know at that point.
