I can't remember much of this novel, only that I finished it and I think I liked it. Basically, I remember the beginning is where MC(I think?)/MC's soul was summoned to the underworld/king of hell/judges of the underworld because MC accidentally killed the Hero/Protagonist too early in the story and MC has to correct it/prevent Hero/protagonist from dying. I think the protagonist/hero was an immortal who was reborn as a mortal to undergo some type of cultivation trial. All I remember is that it was something to do with cultivation, and its a BL. I recognize which novel you are talking about. Something about villain side steps the protagonist or something. But, I can't remember the name. Camping here.
