I'm following manhwa up to Chapter 4. Can anyone spoil me why ML hates the woman who tried to engage with him? Was she his ex-fiancee, and previous engagement was broken by her father because they looked down on ML?

Or was he using this ruse to woo FL? I feel sorry for FL though, her first time intimacy happened in that way.

Spoiler: FL - Edith Arygle

Edith Arygle : Younger sister of a viscount. 6 years ago, as she has no plan to get married like other noble lady, she asked for job as a treasurer for ML (Marquis Rodion) and became part of his vassal. Stays at his mansion, works in his mansion. She's a competent treasurer so she was given authority to approve important matters, almost like a marchioness. Is secretly attracted to ML before, but gave up when hearing ML said he will never get married.

Marquis Alphieus Rodion : Nephew of now Empress Dowager (mother of empress), cousin of newly-ascended ruling Empress. But 12 years ago, the Empress Dowager was exiled by the former Emperor, after defeated by the concubine. Because of her exile, ML's parents were implicated and their family almost fall to ruin. His father died and his mother followed soon after. He was originally engaged to Duke Galloway's daughter but the Duke broke off the engagement. Over the years, ML had rebuild his reputation and FL's competency helped his wealth. When his aunt is back in power and cousin on the throne, every noble tried to marry off their daughters to him. ML hates those hypocrites and rejected all marriage proposals.

Spoiler: Part 1

When ML now has power and wealth, Duke Galloway tried to re-new his daughter's engagement with ML. ML asked FL to pretend as his fiancee, because Duke's daughter (Viola) is coming to visit with the intention to persuade him. FL at first refused but agreed after ML offered to pay her 10 times the salary. The other servants and vassals were aware of the pretense. While there, Viola invited ML to have tea time with her, as she plans to drug him with aphrodisiac.

However, FL went on his behalf and ended up drinking the drug. Viola left her in the drawing room, drugged and in heat.

ML went to check on FL and soon knew what happened. He brought her to his room (to avoid the prying eyes) and after explaining himself, he helped her 'release the heat' by getting intimate.

Viola secretly left the mansion on the day.
ML was away on business after the day and FL was very embarrassed by the situation so she ran back home (her brother's house). While she was writing her resignation at home, ML barged into the house to bring her back. They argued to and fro and somewhere along the line, FL mentioned she does not want to be his treasurer anymore. ML smiled and said ok, then carry her over his shoulder and dragged her back to his mansion.
