They were named as part of the Lambda creation myth. Rodcorte also said he'd been watching Lambda since those two were alive.

Also, he's not conning them. They do actually need a system like his. Besides, do you really think he's bright enough to actually trick someone?

That is the con, he convinces them that they can't do the job themselves. "I'm a professional, look at all these other worlds I provide services for, and it costs you nothing, no believers need to offer me faith."

I don't think he's trying to trick them, though. Most gods can't actually run this kind of system either through lack of the necessary skills or knowledge.

Lambda Origin, there was a black god and a white god that killed each other. Which was good? Which was evil? Unknown. The gods of Lambda were born of their combined blood. And Rodolt swooped in and set up his system while they were still trying to figure out this world creation business.
I think most start the fight because of the assumption that love and marriage was part of the destiny that was meant for Van that Amemiya got instead. As previously stated she fell for Amemiya after learning he wasn't Van, so no real reason to leave him. Up to the current translation point she still doesn't know that the Undead was Van though. Amemiya didn't tell her.

Just putting my hat into the fray here: :blobpirate:

Narumi and Hiroto's first spark was from her thinking it was Van, but she fell in love with Hiroto not Van. So I think we can view that point as a small '+' for Van, but not much of one.

Narumi will not leave Hiroto for Van, even if she's grateful for Van trying to save her life. On the flip side, Narumi won't want to fight Van because he tried to save her. Unfortunately, Rodiot won't give her a choice if she reincarnates normally. So this is a neutral '=' situation for Van.

The only way I see things going a VanxNarumi way is if Hiroto hands over/attempts to get rid of their daughter. Hiroto believes Death attribute shouldn't exist, so he may let Avalon guy take her away. If Narumi finds out about the torturous experiments that would probably follow (if Banda doesn't step in), their relationship would be ruined.

This is the only way I see how Narumi and Van would get together. I would rather have both Hiroto and Narumi join Van's side though.

Well. We've learned a lot in this chapter.

Van's letter did say "Sorry, I can't meet you because the god of Lies and Hate wants me dead" but Selen couldn't understand what was written because the kanji Van used is obscure, again, thanks to that same god doing his damnedest to stomp out all Vida influence and that's where the phrasing Van used came from.

Priest Farzon, who understood the letter, decided to kick the can down the road and just tell her "He's busy." and then demonstrates that he and his "peaceful" bunch are just sucking up to Alda for whatever reason, and if he who shall not be named lest ye be called obsessed doesn't come out of that "dungeon of acceptable targets" soon, House Farzon will be pressed to move and kick that hornet's nest. Which as we all know isn't going to end well for the Farzons.

Then there's Rod. It's no surprise he's dismissive of Kanako, because he's dismissive of everybody, but Oracle and Inspector being dismissive? Ouch. Small wonder the Bravers organization fell apart, if all the members are too busy looking at each other with contempt...

And that dungeon, Alda's bunch didn't want to make Randolf an enemy, but they made a meat-puppet that they were going to force the blades to attack over and over again? And they expected that wouldn't cause friction if and when the Blades met the genuine article? (Facepalm) Setting up meat-puppets of The Storm of Tyranny I can understand, as Schneider's group has been on Vida's side for a while before the whole Evbejia thing, and is now rather actively hunting down Alda's church, but what the heck was Alda's group thinking putting a Randolf puppet in there?

All of Oracle's problems stem from him not asking the right questions, he (and the others there) are dismissive of Kanako because they never thought about it from her side.
While the Storm of Tyranny is there to show the strength of their enemies, Randolf would be of the "don't stir up trouble with the neutrals" type of bosses, like in rpgs where at the end of the tutorial zone is a monster that cannot be beat unless you are on New Game+.

You know this how? I don't recall reading anywhere that "Most gods can't actually run this kind of system either through lack of the necessary skills or knowledge."

Most gods can run this system. Vida is runing one and was runing for 100 thousand years even after she was bound by Alda. And here is not much problems. Rod is runing his system for enternity and it is as bugy is kid made application. This shows, Vidas system is better when Rods.

Because if they could do it without him they would. Guduranis, a mage specialized in souls, was able to infringe on his copyright and make a half-assed copy. Vida, a god of the attribute noted to be closely linked with Death magic, was able to make an even more degraded copy after studying Goody's version. She is incapable of maintaining it on its own and requires other gods to help her. Without this example to study she did not know how to make one at all, this making it pretty clear gods don't just poof into existence knowing this stuff. This means knowledge of it is probably not that widespread, especially given the worry stated in the story that Vida's copy could be offered to other gods if she ironed out all the kinks.

So basically, a typical divine pantheon probably doesn't know how to do it on their own and it's probably the kind of thing that requires some level of control over the soul, which is the domain of death magic and to a lesser extent life magic. Thus, I think the majority of gods probably can't make their own system, but not the VAST majority. They just don't know how because it's really damn hard. I imagine the only ones who could straight up make their own are probably death mages or someone like Rodcorte, who... might have an attribute we haven't seen or something? I don't know, but he does stuff with the soul no one else can.

So it's more like they don't know how than it being literally impossible for all of them. But I really do doubt that, I dunno, Botin could build one herself. Though she might be able to assist with running it.

Point being, I don't feel like it's a con. Rod just comes in and is like You want system ?? Me give system. And normally that's all it amounts to because he typically doesn't interfere and even if he does he can't do much more than offer his opinion. It's just a deal that he works out with local gods if they're interested.
Her system is nowhere near as good. It requires constant maintenance and can only realistically cover a single world. Rodcorte's meanwhile only has problems under very bizarre and specific situations, which require his brief personal attention to fix but otherwise aren't really a big deal. Vida's system is like that all the time because it's not as well designed.

Keep in mind though her system was basically left to run on it's own for a hundred thousand years as she was sealed by Alda that entire time.

She barely had time to develop her system before fucking Alda went "B-but that's not what we had before".

Although it's true Rodcorte's system is absolutley superior given it's ability to manage multiple worlds and the passage of souls amoung them it's not like gods bound to any one world need a system like that.

For the purposes of the god's of lambda a system like Vida's is all they really need. They just need to set up better management for it. And until that happens it's not like faults in the system would doom the world. Just cause some minor issues to occur as the system is improved.

So while it's a bit much to say he's doing a "Con". It is true he's basically forcing his own soltuion onto gods that don't really NEED it. THey could figure it out just fine themselves given enough time. But Rodcorte convinces god's like Alda that only he could ever make a reliable system.

Arha is right in this one,
Rodiotio is a damn idiot but he is still a specialist on this.
He managed to construct a stable system that runs for aoens and links multiple worlds
The problem is because he turned his system into full automatic mode and let it run by itself for thousands of years.
Now he ran into lots of bugs because someone is poaching souls from him in mass and he has not worked for millenniums so it takes time for him to correct errors.

(Do note that the system itself is so stable that even through Vida was already poaching souls through the rituals to turn people into vida races, his system didn't get bugs.
It only started to bug when Van starts to guide hundreds of people per time)

Gudy system is a mess, it's understandable since he didn't have two shots about making anything stable as it was made just as means to an end and not for actual long time use.
But as Arha said, be was a user of death mana which means he IS technically a specialist in souls and dead

Vida system is better than Gudy's but not by much, it runs into lots of errors and many functions need to done manually, but it's stable, even more after Van arrived and started to guide people into it

So you can see that even for people specialized into souls, dead and life managing a reincarnation system is freaking difficult.
So difficult in fact that many worlds decided to simply outsource the job to Rodiot (which i doubt was good seller or even likable while 'selling' his system)
In fact even origin which have lots of gods which basically hate Rodiot didn't even try to create a new reincarnation system

You don't need Death to handle souls, you only need it to destroy them, Gods of all kinds work with souls when making Divine tools, or elevating mortals to godhood. Gods can learn to manage different things when given time, the Lambda gods didn't know how to create life until they did it, and the Earth/Origin Gods are born as their myths are invented, so there are likely hundreds of Death Gods blocked from managing it by Rod.

Yeah, Rodcorte's system is, from the perspective of everyone but Rodcorte himself, actually better than it needs to be. Lambda gains no added functionality from it also handling Origin except in that the fact that it does kept Rod from cutting them off with no warning. But it is technically a better and more stable system. I think the only genuine advantage that Vida's has over it is that hers is (possibly) more flexible. Which we just have to assume because no mention has been made of it freaking out over having souls poured into it, but then maybe that's just one of the things the gods of Lambda are constantly having to fix.

I'm just going to point out the fact that the only reason we even have this story is because an asshole god fucked up someone's reincarnation because of something as simple as two people having the same name. And then basically going "There's nothing I can do to fix my fuck up even though I'm the creator of the system, but what I can do is doubling down on screwing you over. Have fun!"

and honestly calling The OG Demon King a master of souls is a massive over statement.

THat's like calling someone with a giant hammer an expert on construction.

He was certainly powerful but he only knew how to smash souls to pieces with his natural ability to do so. That doesn't equate to skill in manipulating them at all. THe fact we're told he couldn't really talk to the dead, guide the dead, or eat souls like Van can shows how in terms of power over souls the two can't even be compared in the slightest.

From what we know technically any god can make a circle of reincarnation. Although ones that at least have SOME accociation with life and death have an easier time of it. So on that note the Demon King is more qualified than say Alda. But only because he just happens to have the right attribute and not because he's at all good at manipulating souls.

But he also didn't need to be good. He just needed to make something to leech souls from Rodcorte to put inside of his monsters. It wasn't his concern what happened after that.
Just to add to this. Rodcorte could have 100% fixed his fuck up. Because he could have just granted an extra cheat skill than planned and given Van the blessing to live a good life. But he just didn't want to use up anymore power than he already had so he just didn't and went "Opps ... well you're going to go through hell now since you've got litterally 0 luck. bye now" Then when Van is ... a bit livid about being killed moments after escaping captivity he goes "Oh shit he's pissed ... better curse him so he can't take revenge on the others".

I also don't think we've ever gotten confirmation that Gudu had Death attribute, other than being able to use similar barriers to what Van does, and the smashing of souls, but the smashed souls have residue of his own soul so I think he's just using the basic artifact construction skill of all gods destructively, to smash his soul onto others.

Forgot to mention this before but I believe it was actually stated Gudu didn't have the death attribute and that the Death attribute is a mutation born from his soul destroying power basically marinating inside of Van's patchworked soul of the 4 champions and then that power getting forcibly drawn out by the Origin scientists.

Meaning while Gudu's power is the source of the Death attribute and it could very well still be defined as a power with relations to the soul ... it wasn't strictly speaking the death attribute that Van currently posesses. That's why Van is so many times more adept at manipulating life and the soul than Gudu who would only smash them.
