Is it racist to make fun of stereotypes of Asian people as an Asian person? I've made fun of the fact that I'm an example of lots of Asian stereotypes such as eating rice, doing some form of martial arts, eating noodles, and being above average at math (Not great). Am I a racist or a bigot who should be punished in some way?

No...I truly do wish people would check what a word truly means. A Racist, is someone who believes a particular race is superior to another. It has nothing to do with stereotypes or jokes.
Racial traits, and racial differences, are not racist. They are just racial qualities.

Sorry but you're a racist. Don't categorize all Asians together like they do in the US. I'm soooo triggered. Need to go back to my safe space.

I certainly agree that racial qualities are different from racism, and comments on them are therefore not necessarily racist. Except for when those stereotypes and jokes perpetuate the idea of inferiority of a race. Such as the stereotype of Asians as cowards, which is where the phrase"yellow coward" comes from.
Making the joke as a person of the race, you have more leeway, but be careful and judge your audience.

yes, it is. but here's the thing, all people are racists to some degree. we are racists when we assume that black guys are good in basketball, for instance. or that they have big dicks. what most people should understand is that racism is not evil per se. it becomes bad when one looks down on others because of skin color. as for racial jokes, the threshold is a matter of good taste.

I think, for one, we should suspend the word "racism" for now. Pretend it doesn't exist. It's too politically charged for us to have reasonable dialogue.

A rule that I have for myself is to think about things through the lens of being a nice person.

If you say something, and somebody was clearly upset/bothered by it, the nice thing to do is probably apologize, consider their feelings in the future and don't use that kind of language with them anymore. If you intentionally say upsetting things in front of somebody whom you know will be upset, that's just not being nice. That's just mean.

On the other hand, if you say something, and they never hear it, then in that case I might call it a harmless joke. But that's only because they don't hear it.

But then if we start digging deeper about how people tend not to like speaking out if they're bothered/upset at all...... but that's complicated so we'll stop here for now.

People are touchy these days, especially when it comes to being politically correct.

I've done a report on this. Most people I interviewed said it's fine if you are doing it among friends (people who know you are just joking).
