The American Civil War for me is the saddest and most terrible event to happen in the past 1000 or so years, by far. There were a lot of other terrible things that happened, but this set 'brother against brother' and was the birth of total war as a valid military strategy and killed so many, many more than needed. It becomes even sadder when you realize that slavery would have vanished on its own in a generation or less because of economic pressure from Europe (and that maybe racism wouldn't be a problem today if it had). A pointless, bloody, destructive conflict which helped nobody and hurt millions.
At least the world wars were fought over something meaningful, and the Cold War was an actually ideological dispute that was settled more through words than force of arms. At least the Black Death and the fall of Rome accomplished something, and forced humanity to progress. But the Civil war had no upside that wasn't immediately lost by the downsides, or completely empty in hindsight.

Are you sure? Maybe what they store were porn books of important figures, that's why it was destroyed at least four times in history.

Whenever a ruler died, it was custom to go into the great library and burn their stash. It was an age of enlightenment

There were lots of untold historical events that people are trying to conceal to this day. At least there were 10 different events where rulers from Europe back then massacred African people.

Why so specific? The sentence "rulers of (region A) have massacred people of (Region B)" is true no matter what two you put there, unless geographic location made it impossible (including if region A=region B). And realistically I think the only valid exception for continent sized regions is middle easterners and native Americans, and even that's in doubt. Native Americans, Asians, Europeans, and Africans have all slaughtered each other and themselves at some point or another (or many many points over many many timeperiods), and the Middle East has massacred everyone but the native Americans and vice versa.

World War II was the first war where killing civilians was an active strategy. Everybody thought it would demoralize the country it was used against us. The thing is though the two nukes that were dropped on Japan probably caused fewer deaths than a conventional invasion of mainland Japan. You have to remember that these guys were a bit brainwashed to completely hate the USA. It was all part of propaganda and also one of the reasons why thousands of civilians jumped off the cliffs of Okinawa instead of surrendering. They thought that dying was better than being tortured by the USA.

That's true I stand corrected. Sorry for being a pretentious prick

Sorry, but i must be honest here. What sadden me the most is when the heavily fanatic believer (or rather a drifter i think, the radical ones) of Prophet Moses (a.s), Prophet Isa (a.s) and Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W) altering their teaching...
