I'm waiting for a novel to go "She had peerless beauty, skin like jade, nephrite to be exact. Nephrite consists of a microcrystalline interlocking fibrous matrix of the calcium, magnesium-iron rich amphibole mineral series tremolite (calcium-magnesium)-ferroactinolite (calcium-magnesium-iron).

The middle member of this series with an intermediate composition is called actinolite (the silky fibrous mineral form is one form of asbestos). The higher the iron content, the greener the colour. She was truly a beauty capable of making empires and kingdoms, even gods go to war for her."

Hmm this might be a bit late but, jade, for the Chinese, were a symbol of hardness, this in turn lead people to believe them to have mystical qualities such as soul protection and the like. This then lead one thing to another making Jade an essential part of Chinese culture. The reason why they use jade as a description is a parallel to us using pretty or something similar, it's ingrained into their values.
