    You can play with words to add a subtle tone to them.
    "he didn't misunderstand"
    "he understands"
    Mean the same thing yet are not same.
    One adds feeling that there could be misunderstanding, while other does not.
    Of course, only the author can think of such things as machine just translates as closely to the original as possible.
