There is no way to change your appearance after the start. You sell items to Kingseeker Frampt, the serpent in Firelink. As for guidance, I’d recommend looking up Wildpie101 and watching his video on Blighttown

Oh and use the spider shield the entire time in BT because it stops all the poison projectiles
