I don't live in Detroit. But, hell, it might be? The city has, apparently, well over half a million people living in it. That many people living in one place is just going to have a lot of crime. A lot more than a town of like ten thousand. More people, more crime. That's just how it works.

But the media is sensationalist as hell, of course, so if it sounds like the city is on fire, it's likely to be one or two houses burning down and not much else, yea? Take all reports with a grain of salt and keep that population figure in mind - all crime has to be weighed against it.

My dad once got robbed at gunpoint there 30+ years ago *shrug* Then again, I doubt things would be much different if I went into Compton right now.
