Honestly I have trouble imagining designs that only work on one gender, except of course obvious adaptations, the same as any clothes. But overall, I'm inclined to believe clothes don't have to be gender specific in their macro-design.
I tend to recognise certain clothes, like skirts and dresses, as "girl's/women's clothes" because that's what I've been taught all my life and it's the best way to make people understand me, but I try not to let myself categorise them that way. Genders for clothes are purely invented.
Clothes like skirts, dresses, and lingerie are also fun. I think it's sad that men usually aren't allowed them.
There's this French sitcom about King Arthur's round table where the Scottish Knight falls off into mud before a reunion, but the priest doesn't allow him to sit around the table cuz he's dirty and he doesn't want him without clothes because it lacks virtue. He needs an official outfit so they take a piece of cloth and make it so.
Yeah but it's about how you're seen by society, not the cloth itself. I think the only real differences that need to be taken into account is that men abd women have different curves (so we get different shirts and pants) and guys can't have something hanging down there.
