In my opinion, Japanese would be harder with it's flipped sentence structure of SOV instead of English and Chinese's SVO. In SVO structures, we would say 'I like books', but 'I books like' in SOV structures.
It also has three types of characters: Kanji, which looks a bit like traditional Chinese, Hiragana, and Katakana? I had once heard that trying to put them together is really complicated...
But Chinese could also be hard with its need to memorize thousands of characters along with what some characters put together into other words. It also has many homographs and homonyms.
