It is probably because the majority of people visiting/using that site (or the majority of manga readers in general) are boys/males, not many females/girls in comparison
Where are the stats that say that? Considering how many women I know personally who read manga, that doesn’t ring true to me. Maybe it is, but I’d rather see the stats.
Found an article about viewership stats for comic books. It mentions how at one person’s store, manga readership was 60% female. The overall conclusion is that female readership of comics is likely 30-45%. One third to nearly one half is a pretty hefty chunk of women reading, even if it’s talking mostly about western comics.
I have two points about your data. In the first link, Shounen Jump, which has the widest circulation, doesn’t list gender demographics. A lot of women do read shounen and seinen manga. Plus, the other male/female publications are more comparable. Plus, this is Japan only, and is excluding global readership, where the gender break downs might be different.
My second point: for the second link, the vast majority of genres have a roughly 60% male viewership. That means ~40% of women are watching. Then, yes, men are in the *majority,* but only be such a small gap, that we shouldn’t be treated as nonexistent.
Put ads for shoujo, josei, and BL works. Let us be a part of the prank. Where’s the “lonely 2D boys in my area” ad or the “pure yaoi” ad? By putting fake ads that are targeted at men only, they’re treating the women who use the site as invisible.
Haven’t you seen the managadex ads? They’re advertising 2D girls in “your” area as a joke.
Looking at the forum, it turns out the ads are this way because it was discord users who submitted them, not the staff. But an admin said that a lot of female targeted ads were submitted, but I haven’t seen a single one.
