I used to do that, but then I realized it's mildly more troublesome to do it that way with no particular benefit.

i think it's benefit is you can eat them while they are still connected to the stem. that's how monkeys do it, i heard...

Just peel it 3/4 of the way while you eat it. The last quarter you can just pluck it away nicely~

But the stem makes peeling easier

Try it reversed, you won't have problems with even ones that are still greenish

No I meant when they are still kinda ripe it's hard to open sometimes from the stem end
