They might never fly if they never get that push, what if they grow and Don't develop their muscles for wings and go then? When they are heavier
They weigh next to nothing so they don't tumble to their death in that way and the Mama and Papa birds are usually nearby to make sure that nothing happens to their fledgling....it's why you should never pick up a baby bird when you see one.
If you save a baby fledgeling, you may be interfering with a parent's attempt to teach their fledgeling to be self sufficient. :)
