Well, learning back from the basics can easily break down the mental barrier multiple students have, that sense of intimidation a lot of people gained through multiple bad scores or something. .

A lot of teaching methods and curriculums love to assume that everyone remembers the basics like fractions, signs, exponents, basic algebra, and etc., then they instantly proceed onto new material/lessons, resulting in a lot of those who already lag behind to further lag behind.
