A novel where everything goes well for the MC, unlike in real life where you have struggles and bad luck. Reading it lets you feel good and escape reality for a while - hence escapist. Also, it has other unrealistic elements - like cheats, systems, space - anything that can help the protagonist have an edge over everyone else in the novel.
Guess it's not for you then, if it makes you feel bad. You're not into escapism, which is a good thing in my opinion. At least it makes you more well-adjusted than me. To me, MC being troubled or falling into a trap makes me anxious, like physically ill. I already have enough of that in my own life, so I avoid it like the plague in novels.
Yes. Unless it's similar to Akagi or One Outs or Liar Game. And I prefer watching this genre (manga, anime, TV, movies) than reading it as a novel. Probably because novels make me more engaged. But the psychological genre is already more demanding on the brain compared to junk food escapist novels.
